we will be staying at a resort. they dont have a free shuttle so what are some transportation methods in the area? is there any cheap shuttles running there? i dont want to rent a car, not really cause of the price but more so because of the driving in the area we dont want to have to if its avoidable!

if you are staying at a WDW resort they have buses that are free to all guests and take you to each park. If you are staying off property, then I don't know.
Good luck

I think there is a Mears Shuttle that you can arrange to pick you up. The main issue with these types of shuttles is that they charge per person so after maybe two people its cheaper to get a cab which is charged per cab.

Also after so many cab rides its cheaper to rent a car.

How are you getting to the resort?

As for driving around its pretty easy to get around as long as you know a few of the major roads. Once on property there signs everywhere.

For the shuttle you may have to follow their time schedule with limited pick and drop off times.

Again if you could tell us which resort you are staying at it would help.

You do need to be much more specific in your question. You state you are staying at a resort, but not if it's Disney, or the proximity to the parks.

If it isn't a Disney resort, what means of transportation are you using to get there? Are you flying? Then taking a taxi? Cab fare from the airport to near Disney is about $50 or so.

Really, I'd love to give some advice, but I don't know where you're staying.

Taxis are usually the most convenient means of transportation for those who don't want to drive, but some resorts do have limited shuttles as well.

well i wouldnt of asked the question if i was staying AT the wdw resort, that would be silly. we are staying at a resort about 6 miles from disney parks, non related to disney. alot of hotels in the area have free shuttles to the parks but being a resort they do not have shuttles. i think we are going to rent a car because cost wise its going to be more to get around there by shuttles or cabs than to rent. we rent at disneyland all the time too

We always rent a car. Usually use priceline.com
We rented a car for $165 for 8 days for April.
Break that down and its $20.65 per day for the car.
Mind you thats the most expensive car rental we've had for Disney

We always bring our GPS..throw it in the Rental car and it is wonderful!

I don't like the public transportation as we like to come and go as we please..visit the outlets. Have a nice quiet ride back to our hotel from the parks at night!
Well worth the $20 per day!

Yes, it is definitely going to cost less to rent a car. Even with the parking fee, you'll come out ahead!

If you're staying on International Drive, I also heard about a trolley that goes along it, to get to the various hotels and places. It sounds fun!

Have a good trip.

Just so you know its not a real trolley just a just a bus that looks like a trolley car.

If you're crunching the numbers, don't forget to factor in parking at WDW is $14/day.

If you're staying off site you should really rent a car, even if your resort had a free shuttle I've heard the hours for them can be really limited making you have to get up very early to get to the park at a decent time, maybe they have to pick up other people or make other stops,or the last shuttles for the night might make you miss a fireworks show or a dining reservation,I couldn't be on vacation like that.If you were staying on International Drive to do the Universal parks,Sea World,Aquatica or Wet n Wild I can see you getting by with the I Ride Trolley as they have multi day passes for like $5-$10.But if you want to do Disney I would get the car or spend the money on Mears.Driving in the tourist areas of Orlando is pretty simple and once in Disney you'll see signs everywhere.
