Does anyone know if there are any other ways to DLP from Scotland other than flying? We flew last time, but the flights I was hoping to book through Disney are no longer available through Disney and quite expensive via Air France themselves.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the Eurostar/channel/ferry companies etc do any deals for travel beforehand. Can I book them through their company and get the train to wherever I need to be for cheaper?

Or are there any other airlines that fly from Edinburgh? I have looked at Easyjet, but the times of their flights would mean we'd lose our first day and most of our last, so not really worth it. Ryanair tempted me, but as they fly from Prestwick, we would have a 1-2 hour journey this end, followed by the same when we got to Paris, plus there are hidden charges, plus we'd have to pay for airport parking and also possibly a hotel this end the night before the flight.

Why is it so difficult to get to our favourite place?!?!?!?!?

I really want to book ASAP so we're not disappointed, but there's no point in booking if we can't get there

Could you get a really early morning flight to london and then eurostar?

Ooooh I like your new pic, didn't realise it was you for a minute there :rotfl:

What airport would I need to fly to? And is there transport from there to the Eurostar which would be done easily with 3 kids in tow? I never even thought of that, will definitely look into it. I have family in London too, although I don't know London at all so don't know if they're anywhere near where we need to be, but I guess if it came to it we could fly down the night before and stay with them and get the Eurostar the next morning.

Hi there

Its a long way if you dont fly! Air France fly 4 times a day from Edinburgh - great selection of times and some good prices - depending on when you are going.

You could fly to London then get a eurostar to Paris or directly to DLP, but I imagine it would put a very very long time on your journey. If you flew to Gatwick you're on the south side of London and you need to get in to St Pancras - probably Gatwick Express to Victoria and then tube or cab it to St P.

Flying to Stansted would you put you on the north side of London - very north - near Bishop's Stortford if you wanted to look at it on a map. I think you can get a coach into central london, but you'd need to explore this option. You can get a train from Stansted into Liverpool Street, which isnt' terribly far from st P, but you'd still need to cab or tube it over.

Equally flying to Heathrow would put you out on the west of London; again a tube or train trip into London; the Heathrow express comes in at Paddington and yes guess what tube or cab transfer to St P.

If you could spare a whole day ahead of your trip, then I'd say maybe make it part of the fun; fly down, get a hotel, get up early and get an early eurostar the next day. That way all you need to do is transfer to your hotel, and you could probably find one near St Pancras I expect (although not entirely the most salubrious area of London, its not allllll bad, and something like the Euston Ibis or travel inn is fine and near enough - cab trip again in the morning)

So for all this travel time I doubt you would gain very much, unless of course you fancy a night in London.

P&O are doing a deal with a free DLRP ticket if you go by ferry, but that's a very long drive from Scotland to Dover - we did it once, 11 hours or more, with 3 kids that's a bit of a big ask.

Got to say, when you can fly from Edinburgh and be in France within a couple of hours, it does seem the most appealing option in terms of time, at least.

Try searching the BAA website - I think if you choose your airport you can then look at 'destinations' which will tell you exactly who flies from there to where.

Or try one of the travel companies - Expedia, lastminute.com, etc.

Hi. Have you looked at flying from one airport and back into another? We are fellow Scots :cool1: and are flying from Glasgow to CDG then back from CDG to Edinburgh both with Easyjet. It cost an extra £10 or so but gives us a lot more time in DLRP. :thumbsup2

What about taking the sleeper train? Not sure how much it would cost (or where it goes from for that matter), but I do know it goes from Scotland to London Euston, which is about 5 - 10 minutes walk at most from St. Pancras.

You should be able to find it by using Google to look for "Caledonian Sleeper"

Yeah it was air france that we flew with last time. It's £510 which isn't overly expensive for 4 of us and a baby, but when you compare it to the £300 I was quoted for booking the exact same flights through Disney themselves, I'd like to see if I could bring the costs down.

I have family in London so was thinking of staying over with them for a night before we go, but flying to London seems to be just as expensive if not more so than flying to Paris, so I think we'll give that a miss.

I think getting either to or from Glasgow would be a problem for us without taking the car ourselves, so it wouldn't work. As we would either be flying back to Glasgow with our car at Edinburgh, or flying back to Edinburgh with our car at Glasgow.

It would seem that there is a sleeper train from London to Edinburgh but not from Edinburgh to London :confused3 very strange, thanks for the suggestion though.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I'm just going to have to go with the expensive flights - they're not that expensive, it's just that when I went through the DLP website it said it was going to be £200 cheaper booking the flights through them, but now they're not available through them, I'm not so keen on paying the extra money for the exact same flights direct with Air France. We looked into the ferry to Zeebrugge in Belgium and then driving from there. It would work out about £150 cheaper (based on prices in October as you can't book any further ahead than that yet) but oh isn't sure about driving to DLP from there.

How stupid is that?! The London Paddington - Penzance is run in both directions, so I don't understand why the London Euston - Scotland isn't. Oh well, such are UK based trains ;)

I know it's rediculous.

There are trains, just not sleepers and not direct from Edinburgh to London. We would have to get the train down the day, before, changing trains twice and then stay over in London. Whereas on the way back, we'd just get on the sleeper at London, sleep and get off at Edinburgh in the morning. It's a very weird way to do it if you ask me :confused3
