The DH and I are going to stay 2 nights at universal on the front end of our January trip and then transfer over to BW on Monday. My question is, what is the easiest and cheapest way to do this? I called Mears thinking they might have a shuttle of some kind but they offered a town car for $47 one way and a taxi for $37-41 one way...is this the best deal we can get??

Renting a car for the day is probably the cheapest easiest way. If you want bus service, The Links is the local transit system and drops off very near DTD but not to any of the hotels that I know of.

US is not "close" to WDW. It's about another 30 min east so taking a taxi isn't going to be "cheap." Unless you can maybe find a ride service on Craig's list or Angie's list.

We are doing this at the end of our November trip and are renting a car. There will be 4 of us though plus luggage so one taxi wouldn't do it for us. I would try and price out both if there are only 2 of you because the taxes on the rental car can add up even if you get a great rate on the car.

I would rent a car for the time you're at Universal. That way you can use it to get to Universal and to Disney with Grocery stops, etc. Not necessarily the cheapest but in the ball park and more convenient. You should be able to rent something to drop off at Disney.

I disagree, we took a taxi and there were four of us and luggage. It was $31+ tip. The parking charge at that other place is $20 a day, no deal if you are staying there...why would you want to pay that? Granted, you have to get the the airport now too, and that's another $40. Still less fuss and muss with a cab. They will send a cab van for the same price if you have lots of luggage.

How are you getting to Universal from the airport? if a taxi, you might want to price out car service for both legs of your trip. Most car services offer a grocery stop. Price likely comparable to what you'd pay for cab service. However, prices vary widely among the competition, you need to shop around & check reviews from what my friends tell me.

We usually do a split trip between WDW & Universal but having a vehicle is worth the expense to me. There are threads here on the transportation board by month that will let you find codes/coupons to get an idea of the cost. Alamo and National are easy to return to the BW area. Not sure if you could hotwire or priceline with a drop to a different location, you'd have to check.

You will pay $20 per night to park at the Universal resorts. However, they are among the few Orlando non-WDW deluxe resorts that don't impose a resort fee.

Thanks for this and thanks for all the other comments! I'm thinking renting might be a good option. My husband travels a lot and probably has some points somewhere and it sounds like it is just going to be more convenient even if we do have to pay for parking!
