I'm trying to find out what kind of ticket/tickets we need for our Paris trip. We'll need to go from CDG to Paris on day 1, Paris to DLP and back on day 2, Paris to Versailles and back on day 3 and from Paris to CDG on day 4. I read that we'll need a speciel ticket to Versaille, but I can't find anything about it :confused3

I think I can help with the bit to Versailles, I've spent enough time studying the RATP site! :surfweb: You need to take the RER C to Versailles Rive Gauche and it make sure it's Rive Gauche as that is the closest entrance. We're getting on at Champ de Mars Tour Eiffel and it takes about 25 minutes.

When I've put the route into the RATP site it does say this

As of Monday, July 16, 2012, every day because of work, traffic is stopped between stations Gare d'Austerlitz and Invalides on the RER line C until Saturday, August 18, 2012. (using google translate)

and tries to tell us the bus will be quicker (at an hour and 11 minutes!) but I'm hoping that as the station we're getting on is further down the line than the disruption that we'll still be OK to go by train.

I estimate it's going to cost €8 return each and as I don't think any of my DDs qualify for cheap travel I think we're going to buy a carnet of 10 tickets to save a few euros.

If anyone thinks I'm giving the wrong info here please say!! ;)

Have you bought your tickets to Versailles yet? I've been on the Trip Adviser Paris forum where people strongly advised buying them as apparently the queue for security is bad enough without having to queue for tickets too so DH and I have bought ours online (the girls are free for the chateau).

CDG to anywhere in zone 1 (Paris) is 9.25€

Paris to DLP and back to Paris is 14,20€ - get a Mobilis zone 1-5 as it includes a days travel for the same price as a simple return ticket

Paris to Versailles is 4€ single so 8€ return

Paris to CDG is same as day 1 - 9,25€

Are you buying a carnet of 10 single tickets (12,70€) to use the rest of the time in Paris or just going to be walking every where ?

You've understood perfectly :thumbsup2 The 2 stations St Michel and Musée d'Orsay are closed but all the others are open.

Avoid Versailles on the weekend and get there as early as you can as once the coaches start turning up it's chaos over there :scared1:

Thank you so much... We will be staying near Charles de Gaulle Etolle, so we can take line 6 to Champ de Mars and then C, Rive Gauche to Versaille. We have booked tickets online cause I read as well that the lines are crazy. We had to get the 25 euro pass with the show, since it was the only once available on the 14th of August.

Thanks, once again you know the answer to everything :goodvibes
We are not planning on using transport on day 1 and 4... Like real tourists, we'll be walking ;) I was thinking about taking the boat trip, where you can jump on and off as you like.

Thank you Carrie :goodvibes

Stephanie, we had to pay €25 too as I didn't want to be getting up at dawn on our first day in Paris (or should I say having to nag the DDs to get up at dawn, that'll have to be the second day :lmao: ) plus I rather fancied seeing the fountains working, especially after watching a documentary about them. The downside is that it's a Saturday *groan* but we're aiming to get there really early.

I was first looking at the jump on/off busses, but just like here in Copenhagen, they are overpriced... And I like the thought of sailing along the Seine :-)

The Batobus is overpriced for what it is too ::yes:: and it's very crowded at this time of year so I'd check it out before purchasing your pass :goodvibes
