Transpertation - how early do we need to be at LAX

In all of the transpertation threads I read none really dealt with going back to LAX

My question is this....
How early do we need to LEAVE the hotel and/or be at the airport to catch our flight?

Our flight leaves at 10:40 PM on a Thurs (4 adults and 4 kids - ages 1.5 to 8)
Can we take the DLE bus that leaves OUR hotel at 7:40 & DLR at 8 (arriving at LAX at 9)?

That gives us 1 hr 40 mins which seems like enough time to me but I want to be sure

Based on our past experiences LAX security can take awhile. We've gotten through quickly before, but that's rare. I would recommend an earlier bus.

DLE recommends that you catch the bus that will get you to the airport about 3 hrs before your flight. I definitely agree with the PP, security at LAX can be a nightmare! Also, on the last few trips we've noticed that the buses have had a tendency to run late on pick-ups to the airport, and we feel much more relaxed with having that extra time just in case!

For a domestic flight, I am physically walking in to LAX at least two hours before my flight. More if it is a peak travel time. We once almost missed a flight out of LAX and it was most unpleasant.

And I leave at least an hour for travel. If I'm using a shuttle or DRExpress I go with their timing because I figure they know what they are doing.

I agree with the above! Its a big airport and who knows how far your gate will be from the checkin area.

Our last trip was not fun, we were pushed through the line since my mom needed wheel chair assitance and I am not sure we would have made our flight otherwise, we had 2 hrs at the airport and it was not enough

So if I take the 6:40 bus (leaves DLR at 7)
Then we will have approx 2 hrs 40 mins to take off

Better safe then sorry that's for sure
