Transitions lenses

I got my first pair of transitions lenses in '97 and I will never go back. I love them (and the newer ones do change faster from dark to light--they have always darkened quickly). DD wears glasses now and I get them for her as well.

I have grey lenses. My lenses are totally clear indoors (but as a PP said it can take a minute to change fully in warm weather and 3 minutes or so in cold weather from bright sunlight to indoor low light). They are DARK in bright sunlight--as dark as any sunglasses I have ever owned--fine for glare off of the snow while skiing or at the beach.

Transition lens are fine. As PPs have said they do not replace sunglasses. My problem with them is in outdoor pictures it looks like I have sunglasses on. For DD's wedding I had to wear old glasses for outdoor pictures. (A friend had warned me prior to the wedding not to wear transition lens for pictures - he has no good outdoor pics from his son's wedding due to the dark tint of the glasses.)

I have transitions lenses, and I really don't care for them. This is my first pair of glasses, and I was used to wearing polarized sunglasses. The sunglasses would be dark enough and seemed to protect my eyes. I find myself squinting to keep the sun out of my eyes when I have my transitions glasses on. They don't seem to be very good at being sunglasses to me.

I keep regular sunglasses in my purse to use, and just take off my regular glasses, so I feel I wasted my money on the transition lenses.

I agree with you totally. I spend a lot of time outdoors. I also suffer with migraines, which often come on from glare, bright sunlight. (A bit inconvenient when you're living on a tropical island!) I tried the transition lenses, but they're a very poor substitute for good polarized sunglasses. I made the transitions mistake a few years ago - not going to happen again! I own two pairs of quality sunglasses - there is always a backup pair in my car because I can't drive during the day without them.

On the other hand, I think transition lenses are great for kids. DD11 and DD17love their transition lenses. The transitions work for them because they spend most of the daylight hours indoors, in school. With our strict uniform codes, our schools wouldn't permit the use of sunglasses without a medical certificate! Both girls also have sunglasses for weekend use - my girls are both fashionistas-in-training that won't be caught dead in the weekend without their accessories!

The transitions also save me money, not to mention, stress. I have enough of a battle getting the girls, especially the younger one, to keep track of their prescription glasses! Adding sunglasses to the mix will only drive my blood pressure through the ceiling!
