Transgenders and bathrooms....

Just make a unisex bathroom available and it makes everyone happy. Transgendered have bigger problems to worry about than if they are going to get harassed going into the "wrong or right" bathroom.
I agree. Make all bathrooms single person (or family) and be done with it. This nonsense is tiresome and likely not making anyone happy.

You forgot to mention one of the newer etiquette rules according to some wussy metrosexual guys: Do NOT, under any circumstances, use the urinal next to one already in use. Apparently that's a horrible breach of etiquette.

That's not a new rule, that's been around for decades. And it isn't about privacy, it's about minimizing splash back on your neighbor - and only if there are enough open urinals to accommodate leaving a buffer.

If there's a wall of 8 urinals and one guy peeing, you wouldn't go up to the one right next to him to pee.

it is every mans god given right to pee in a urinal or trough in every public bathroom there is. I shall not be forced to pee in a toilet in a stall. I want to walk in, unzip while I am making my way to the urinal/trough and start peeing while I am finishing my walk up. my rights are being trampled on here...

There's a high school football stadium by me that still has the original troughs in the men's restroom from 1951. For some reason I love using the bathroom there. Kinda nostalgic I guess.

The best troughs are the ones without flushing mechanisms. They just keep dumping in ice for a constant flow.

I came across some very old, very ornate floor urinals when I was in a NYC bar many years ago. They were like porcelain works of art! I remember even bringing my girlfriend into the restroom to show her them. I guess we may have been breaking the law???

That is too funny. Sounds like me as I'd do the same thing with my wife. I haven't seen one of those in about 25 years. Id definitely have to take a pic.

DS just showed me the Liberal Redneck's youtube video on Transgender Bathrooms. Can't link it here due to language, but it pretty much sums it up for me.

The old Winnipeg Arena had a trough that was continual, no flushers. When the arena was torn down, pieces of the trough were auctioned off. It was legendary in the city LOL

People have commented that there are really no laws and that all bathrooms should be unisex. The previous poster isn't making that up.
She is exaggerating what people have said because she was called out about being wrong in a previous post.

She claimed that "now" men were legally allowed to use the women's restroom. She seemed to think that there were new laws allowing men to use the women's restroom and that this NC law was in response to that. Several people told her that was not the case and she responded with that retort.

No one ever said all bathrooms have always been unisex. They just said that there was never a law preventing anyone from using either facility-- just social custom that men "shouldn't" use the women's room. She's taking that to mean that everyone is suggesting that it should just be a free-for-all.

This is the part of this thread that is getting to me. There have been no new laws passed stating men can legally go into a womans restroom! That is not at all what has happened.

Honestly, it's not just the few posters on this thread. I have encountered this a lot in real life (and on social media).

Like the Target policy. Everyone keeps claiming that allowing transgender people to use their corresponding gender's restroom is something "new" that's being put into policy or law around the country. But, this is nothing new. Target even stated on their corporate website that they were "reiterating" their existing policy. It's not "all of the sudden now men area allowed in the women's room" (and, therefore, now we need new laws like the one in NC to stop them) like people keep claiming.

This isn't some "new" issue that now needs to be addressed. It's been a non-issue-- people have been using restrooms according to social norms without needing laws to confine them to the "correct" one.

When we were at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2004, they still had a trough in the center of the barroom (so you could access it from both sides).

When my dad toured soccer stadiums in Scotland in 1985, the trough had foot moldings to show you were to stand - some of the feet pointed away from the trough. You know, in case you had more serious business to accomplish.

Use the bathroom that your biological plumbing calls for. If you get the biological plumbing changed than you can use the bathroom that meets your plumbing requirements no matter what your birth certificate says. I don't care if the user is uncomfortable, think about how the other patron's comfort level is too.

And what if the man who was born physically female has a beard and muscles and a crew cut. How comfortable do you think women would be if he waltzed into their bathroom? How safe do you think he would be?

To every rule there are exceptions. But for 99% of the cases the rule works.

I completely disagree. I know several transgender people and only one that I can think of would be obviously so. A couple more you might be able to tell if you studied them closely, but who is going to do that when someone walks into the bathroom?? You will notice the beard and muscles, though.

You are absolutely correct. 99% of the population do follow your "rule" and use the bathroom of their DNA assigned sex. However, since approximately .3% of the population identifies as transgender, that easily falls into the 1% of wiggle room you have allowed for people to use the bathroom of their gender.

Great to see that you are on board.

And you do realize that birth certificates can be changed?

Caitlyn Jenner has said she had had her birth certificate changed to indicate she is a female. Yet she has not had her male plumbing removed. So, when she uses the Ladies Room, she absolutely is using the bathroom that is on her birth certificate.

I would think that external appearance not matching what is expected causes many more issues than mismatched "plumbing".

ETA - I don't have ad-block on this computer and my ads now include 'plumbing contractors' and 'bath remodeling pros' :)
