Please don't close this thread....

I asked this question yesterday, but a moderator closed it, posting a link to the Transportation sticky. The problem is that the transportation sticky only covers those who are staying on Disney property while visiting Universal for the day. That is not what I am asking.

We are staying at WDW for 6 nights and then RP for 3 nights. What is the best way for us to get from WDW to Universal and then from Universal to the airport? In case it matters, we are a party of 2 adults, 2 kids, and a baby (who should really be in a rear-facing car seat in a car). This is our first Universal stay, so we are new at this.

If you suggest renting a car, would we also have to pay for parking at RP? We don't plan to drive off property since we have a club room, so that seems a waste. I also don't want to waste our time at the rental agency if I can help it. Should we look into Tiffany Town Car (we've used them in the past for other trips)?

We are doing the same thing(will be at WDW from 16-22, then HRH from 22-24).. Planning on getting a town car for transportation from Disney POP century to HRH then from HRH to the Airport. The cost is nominal and will suit our needs the best. This way we don't have to take time out of our vacation to go rent a car or get an expensive taxi... The towncar co's will pick you up when you want!!! HTH, Jenn

Sorry...I thought the sticky covered must of what you were asking.

I'm going to move this to the main board so you'll get more responses.

rent a car that has a rental station at the UO hotels.

drop it off when you arrive to the hotel to check in.

no parking fees for your stay there then.

you can use the car to get from the motherland hotel to the darkside hotel with a stop for snacks and beverages along the way.

reread your thread.

you can rent the car again for returning to MCO when you are checking out of the darkside hotel.

taxi's could cost you $40 a trip plus tax.
depends on if you are stuck in traffic.
they usually charge by the mile and time you are in the taxi.

Thanks all for the advice. When I look at the two best options, renting a car vs. a town car service, I am leaning towards a town car. The price seems about the same, but with the town car, we won't have to deal with the rental counter or the time it takes to do all that.

Now to find a coupon for the town car.... :-)

i pay $130 for a 3 leg trip in orlando.

mco - motherland
motherland - darkside
darkside - mco

if you can find a coupon to beat the price i pay, let me know!

i only do town/car service but know many use the other options.
some of them are cheaper than car service.

macraven: I am only needing two of the legs that you normally use. However, the best price (before tip) I have found is $110. I am wondering if my two legs would be cheaper if I knew who you use. Would you be willing to share who you use?

We do this exact thing every year and just use cabs to Uni and then to airport.

Roughly $40 per trip and if you won't need the car while at Universal it's a lot more convenient using cabs than going through all the hassle in renting a car.

I know this may sound weird but it's what I plan on doing next year...

Take Disney's Magical Express from MCO to WDW. On the day we check out of WDW, take Disney's Magical Express back to MCO and then immediately hop on a Mears Airport Shuttle to Universal. And of course, Airport Shuttle again from Universal to MCO when we check out to fly home. $60 round trip.

Anyone think i'm nuts??

i would love to but the name of the company is banned from the dis.
if i listed the company, it would be astericked out.

let me check on one company that does the car service for $100. (one rt)
can't do the checking right now but will within this week.

As nutty as a Professor of Nuts from Nutland University :)

We do use ME airport to Disney right enough but then 2 cabs will not cost a great deal more than the $60 you will be spending on the shuttles but a lot of time saved by going direct to Universal and direct to the airport.

Last time we got a Mears shuttle form Universal back to the airport it took ages as it picked up from 4 other hotels.

I was afraid of that. The time we will be spending/wasting waiting for the shuttles. Hmmm. Perhaps a taxi from WDW to Universal and then to MCO might be a good idea after all.

Not sure a Town Car would be big enough to hold all 5 of you plus the driver. There will only be 5 seat belts in a Town Car. 2 in the front and 3 in the back. You might just need to use a taxi service and let them know you need a van.

You can request an SUV or minivan from a Towncar Service. Not a problem. That would be my plan if we were staying onsite at Disney. We're not, so we're just renting a car and paying the parking.

to me, my time is more valuable than money.

i would not do that.
get the ME from disney to mco.
get the luggage,
wait for the universal shuttle. ......etc.

you could easily waste 4 + hours of time that you could be in the parks at the darkside.

to spend the extra $20 for direct service from the motherland resort to the darkside resort is money well spent.

and no, i do not think you are nuts at all.

everyone plans their vacations differently.
if money is tight, you see how you can cut some of the spending.
if you need to save that extra $20, then you do what is best for you and the family.
