Hi there

We are a family of 4 and will be traveling in September. I want to make sure we are frugal but also not spending a long time waiting for buses or stopping at various places. I have tried to do some research but thought I would check out with you "experts" which option you would choose.

Arriving to SNA in morning on a Thursday - staying at the PPH and returning to SNA in the early afternoon on a Tuesday.

For $90 I can add a DL Resort Express bus (total round trip for 4) - I think I have to wait for it though and it stops first at DLH?? I am not sure as the info I have been finding is a bit unclear.

For $72 (round trip 4) I can add the Super Shuttle to my package - I have been told it is always available and will take me right to my hotel but I am sceptical because of some reports I have read

Or I can get a cab - I think people are saying this is about 40-45 each way so about $100 rt or a little more if I tip well ; ) For this scenario I would need to carry two boosters for my 6 and 4 yr-olds

We plan on just staying at the park and in vicinity for the 5 days so no need for a rental car.

Have I looked at all my options???

WHat info am I missing?

What would you choose??

Thanks so much

Carla

Just thought I'd throw in the SuperShuttle discount code in case you or anyone else who reads this can use it. If you book online you can use the discount code UYR59 to get $3 off per person each way. So, normal round trip fare per person would be $20. If you use the code, and book each person separately, your round trip fare would be $14 per person. It was so handy to book ahead online, as well as pay the tip ahead of time, and not have to wait around for transportation. We had a fine experience using SuperShuttle from SNA for the first time a couple of months ago and would definitely go that route again. And you must book each person SEPARATELY to get the discount applied to each person's fare. :goodvibes

Thank you for the code - It's good to hear that you didn't have to wait around at all for Super Shuttle.

I've also had really good experiences with the Super Shuttle, except our last trip when one of the passengers lied about her destination and took us on a long detour  In my past experiences, most people who take Super Shuttle seem to be heading to DLR and I am able to get to my hotel in less than 30 minutes. And like PP said, there are tons of codes online to get discounts off each way. Don't worry about booking separately as DBF and I always do but each time, we were on the same shuttle.

One thing though, you do have to wait for the shuttle to load before it takes off but I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to depart from the airport :thumbsup2

I almost always use SuperShuttle too. You really don't have to wait very long and it's so easy. Best of all, it's cheap! Use the above code. For those traveling this summer, you can use the code RIDES (good through Aug 31) to get up to 6 additional passengers @ $5 each with 1 full-paying adult ($10). All must be booked on the same reservation. As an example, that would make RT for 4 $50 + tip.

You definitely don't need to add it to your package. DL Express can be done a la carte as well, and there are discounts for booking it online and doing a roundtrip.

I've done both, and I have liked and disliked both! From LAX, so the annoyance factor for both is higher since you're on it longer, LOL.

Whichever you choose, go with plenty of time to get back to the airport, don't fudge the times, and be relaxed. Last time I used supershuttle I was the very first on at HoJo, and then we drove up and down Harbor and Katella doing a very complicated series of pre-arranged pickups. We DID get to LAX on time, perfectly so, but if I'd fudged my time, not understanding why I had to be picked up SO early, I would have been absolutely out of luck.

We used DL Resort Express for our trip that we just returned from. If you are an AAA member you can get a discount. I meant to reserve online ahead of time and didn't get around to it so I just paid right before we got on the bus at SNA airport and for some reason it was even cheaper than the price quoted online. And I accidently took my expired AAA card instead of my new one and she took it and gave me the discount.
The bus pulled up just a minute or two after we walked over to the waiting area. I don't remember if it went directly to DLH or to the GCH first because we also used Grayline for a tour and for the tour it would go to the Grand, then DLH, then PPH. But, I do know that from SNA to DLH was just under 30 minutes.
When we used DL Express to go back to the airport we went directly from DLH to SNA. We left the hotel at 5pm and were at SNA by 5:25. No stopping at any other hotel.
If it's really important to you that the bus goes directly from the airport to PPH, I would call Grayline and ask them.

HTH

I just returned from DL with a 4 and 6 year old and had the same concern. We decided to use the Disneyland Express and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Our plane landed at 10:35, we got our checked luggge and were on the 11:00 shuttle. We stopped at the DL hotel and 3 others before being dropped at the Fairfield Inn. We checked in, checked our luggage (room wasn't ready) and were in the park by noon.

I used SuperShuttle when I went at the end of May, flying into SNA. It was very easy. Picked up luggage, got on van and was off within 10 minutes at most. It did take at least 30 minutes to get to PPH, but that was because of other stops, including one that seemed a little out of the way in my opinion. Return was just as easy. They were there right on time, we were first to be picked up, stopped at 2-3 other hotels and were at SNA within 20 minutes. I will definately use it again.

Are you able to use SuperShuttle without a booster seat/toddler seat for your child?

I don't know what their official rule is, but during our ride to the hotel there was a 3 year old girl riding without any kind of booster.

Thanks all!

Hmm - I wonder if I should bring boosters just in case.

Yes you should. It's the law, and of course beyond that, it's a safety matter. The one problem with Super Shuttle si that some of the drivers are absolutely crazy-drivers, and it can be scary. Their website tells you to look up the laws for the state you're using it in, and I highly doubt taht they would be held responsible if something happened and a child were hurt because the parent decided to not have them in a proper restraint.

So bring the carseats. It's a pain, but it's the safest!

Their official line is that you should bring boosters. They don't make you do it, however.

I personally did not choose to bring them for my kids, who were the same ages as yours the first time we went (4+ yr-old twins and a 6+ yr old). You don't need boosters/carseats on the bus and you didn't used to need them in a taxi, but I think that may have changed.

I've never had a crazy driver, thankfully. I've had annoying drivers, though! One in particular, who insists on playing trivial pursuit with extremely obscure American history questions to demonstrate his superior knowledge :rotfl:. I've gotten that guy twice. I've taken SS from SNA-DLR about 15 or so times and not had any problems. I've also had ok taxi experiences although I thought it cost more than it should have a couple of times ($48 each way, not counting tip, on a non-busy day).

Thanks - boosters it is - I am pretty sure airlines are still not charging to check those through but I guess you never know - could change at anytime.

Personally - I'm not a fan of Super Shuttle. We booked that on our last trip and were so disappointed in the service from LAX that we paid the extra money to take the Disney Express back (and were much happier). It had nothing to do with the driver, but the shuttle was supposed to be an express to the Resort and instead stopped at 4 communities along the way. Perhaps it would have been better from SNA due to the shorter distance. Plus the Disney Express required much shorter board times to catch our flight.

In Sept. we opted for the Disney Express instead (from SNA).

FWIW.

Just a word of caution if you are staying at PPH and using Super Shuttle. I don't know if they do it different now, but when we stayed at PPH a few years ago, they didn't pick up where they dropped us off.

We had a very early pickup scheduled as our flight from SNA was around 6:30 am. We were waiting on a bench right by the hotel doors near where Super Shuttle had dropped us off a few days earlier. Right around the time we were supposed to be picked up we saw the van. They slowed down near a bench out by the road that runs in front of the hotel, then sped off. I ran inside and the CM behind the desk told me they pick up out by the road. Luckily she called them and the dispatcher sent them right back to get us so we made our flight with plenty of time to spare.

Be sure and ask the driver that drops you off where you need to be for your return trip if you use SS.

We plan on using the Disneyland Express. There wasn't an option to put it into our package, so I'll have to figure out how to get the vouchers ahead of time. We aren't going rt though- just one way. Nice to know they accept AAA.
