Transferring points?

I have seen several posts where members talk about transferring their points to another member's account.

I attempted to do this yesterday, and the DVC told me I could not - that I would have to make the reservation in the other member's name but that I could not transfer points to their account.

In some ways what the DVC told me makes sense. Imagine the administrative headache of points with different use years and expirations being lumped in the same account. But, there have been enough postings here to seem that it happens.

Can someone tell me the real scoop?

That's interesting, since several of us just did this a few weeks ago when we were trying to send a dying young mother and her children to WDW. There were 5 of us who transfered points into the accounts of 2 of us to make the ressies.

You can transfer current points to another member; there was also a recent change allowing you to do as many transfers out per use year or, alternatively, as many transfers in per year as you want -- you just can't do both in one use year. Banked or borrowed points cannot be transfered although current points once transfered can be banked by the recipient. Thus you either got wrong info or you were attempting to transfer under one of the situations mentioned above where you cannot transfer.

The points I was attempting to transfer were indeed banked points, so I guess that explains it. Thanks. Strange that DVC did not mention the reason I could not do it was because the points were banked. They just replied that points cannot be transferred to other members accounts even after I said I had heard of other people transferring points.
