Transferring points

Not trying to do anything - I just saw some posts about transferring points and wondered what exactly it entailed.

You can transfer points from owner to owner or transfer points from one of your own memberships to the other. Officially, Disney doesn't allow you to pay or receive money for the transfer and you are restricted to one transfer in or out per calendar year.

I assume it would have to be for the same home resort?

No, you can get a transfer from any resort with any UY. Those points, even when transferred to you, continue on as the same resort and UY.

For example, you own SSR with a Feb UY. You get a transfer of AKV with an Oct UY. Those AKV points are still AKV points and follow the banking deadlines of an Oct UY.

Members are allowed one transfer in or out per UY.

So I'm thinking ideally this could be done if:

1) You were short a few points (or more) for a stay and found another member who was willing to "lend" them or "rent" them to you?

2) You were pooling with family members or friends to get something like a grand villa?

yes. while technically there is not supposed to be any compensation for transfers, this is typically how things happen.

a little more complicated, since you can only accept one transfer (in or out) per year. so several family members would not be able to transfer their pts to a single recipient so that that person could book a grand villa.

Thanks for the clarification. Just trying to understand all the little details of DVC membership : )

I've used the transfer in option to get enough points for a family reunion trip but had to make sure that I got enough points in the one transaction allowed per year. You can get there for the Grand Villa plan IF you have two family members who together have enough points for the planned rental. One transfers to the other and then you can make the reservation.
