I would like to use the rent/trade board to rent points to be transferred into my account. I need help understanding the rules to do this. Does home resort or use year matter? I have a February UY at SSR but would like to use the points at OKW. Any info or direction to t
Info would be greatly appreciated. TIA

First off, renting a reservation at a specific property and date versus a points transfer are different things.

If you want to rent a reservation at OKW, find a member with home resort points there, or points at any resort inside seven months out, and have them make the reservation for you.

If on the other hand you want to pay another member to transfer his points into your account, then of course UY and home of the points matter. Transferred points are easiest to comprehend as if you were able to buy a single year membership at a given resort. They work the same as points in your own account do; they simply don't get renewed for subsequent years unless you pay to transfer more points in.

By the way, officially you cannot pay to have another members points transferred to your account. Everyone does it; the distinction is simply that Disney won't help you at all if for some reason the transfer transaction goes awry. Buyer beware and make sure you trust the person you're purchasing from before you complete a transaction.

So basically I need someone with this same home resort and UY as mine? Will I then be able to combine the points with my own and control my own reservation?

No, you can transfer in points from any other member at any resort and any UY. You can combine with your own points at any resort inside seven months, subject to availability.

Points retain their own home resort status and you cannot combine points from different resorts before seven months.

Also be aware that transferred in points do not show up online. To use them you will need to call MS directly.

If you want to use the transferred points at 11 months, they will need to be from the resort you will reserve. If they are from a different Home Resort than your own, they can be combined with your points at 7 months for use together. Once in your account, you will have full control over all reservations made using those points.

The Use Year month does not matter. MS will transfer 2014 points into another member's 2014 Use Year without regard to the renewal month. Members may have one transfer (either into or out of your account) per Use Year and may transfer points from the current Use Year and the next Use Year.

If your account is in the 2013 Use Year (September, October and December, 2013) you could still transfer points to another member's 2013 Use Year ... and ... their 2014 Use Year respectively.

If your account is in the 2014 Use Year (February, March, April, June, August) you can transfer points into/out of your 2014 Use Year ... and your 2015 Use Year.

The transferred points will retain their original Home Resort status and original Use Year status - which means they will expire at their original deadline. If the transferred points were from accounts purchased before March, 2011 they will also retain their unrestricted use and could be used for a Disney Cruise or Disney Collection Resort Reservation.

Transferred points may be banked (MS will usually allow that beyond their original banking deadline). Transferred points cannot be borrowed. Points that have previously been banked or borrowed cannot be transferred.

MS will need to know the name and Membership number of the owner of the account receiving the transferred points. A transfers is an irreversible transaction. Once completed, the points cannot be returned to the original account. The transferring member will be provided a confirmation number for the transfer.

Enjoy! :)

Hi! I'm just trying to make sure I understand transfers. I have a Dec. UY. I have used my 2014 points, so I would need to borrow from my 2015 points in order to make any reservations. Can my 2015 points be transferred to another member? Also, if I have contracts with two different resorts, am I allowed to transfer from both? TIA!!! :)

If your resorts are under the same membership (titiled the same way and same UY), then transferring does not apply. YOu can simply pool them to book reservations 7 months or less in advance.

If you have two different memberships, then you would be eligible for a transfer in/out from each of them.

You can transfer points from your 2015 UY, prior to your borrowing them. Once you borrow, they would not be eligible.

Any member receiving your 2015 UY points would be able to use them for any reservation starting Dec. 1st, 2015 until November 30th, 2016. They could also bank them for use during the Dec 2016 UY.

If they don't own the same resort and UY as you do, then that member would not see them online and would have to call MS to use them.

At any given time you can transfer points from your current use year or your next applicable use year. Thus in October 2014, you cannot yet transfer your December 2015 points (you have to wait until Dec 2014 to do so). You can transfer in points right now from another's 2014 use year regardless of whether it is a Dec use year. Also be aware that you cannot transfer points that have already been borrowed or banked and thus if you borrowed your 2015 points into your 2014 use year, you would be prohibited from transferring those. Also the recipient of transferred points cannot borrow them but can bank them.

You can transfer in points or transfer out points, but not both, only once per use year. That rule does not depend on what resort you have and thus you could not transfer points at two different times for the same use year simply because you have two resorts. You could transfer points from both resorts in one transaction.

The exception to the above is if you have two use years. For example, many have, through different purchases at least one of which is resale, ended up with two use years such as, for example, Feb and Sep. In that case, you are treated for almost all purposes as two separate and distinct members and thus you could transfer points from both those use years in the same year, e.g., you could in June 2014 transfer both Feb 2014 points from your account and sepoarately in another transaction transfer the Sep 2014 points from the other account.

Thank you for the replies! I think I understand it now. Since my UY is December, and I'm possibly thinking of transferring my 2015 points, I need to wait until Dec. 1, 2014. I can transfer both my BLT and my Aulani points, but I'd have to transfer them all at once. Does this sound correct?

Also, unless the points are the same UY and resort as whomever I transfer to, they will not see them online. They would have to call MS for reservations. If I borrow my 2015 points in to my 2014 UY, I cannot transfer them. Am I on the right track? Thanks so much!

Thank you all for the info. I'm new and need a little more help. Let's say I have 50 SSR Jun UY points coming up and transfer in 50 Apr UY points from another member. At my 11 mo window, can I book a reservation using all points or do I have to wait until 7 mo?

Thanks!

^You can book 11 months out at home resort using points applicable to that resort and 7 at others. That rule does not vary according to use year. If those April points transferred in are SSR points then at 11 months out from date of arrival you could reserve a room at SSR using both sets of points. If the transferred points are for a resort different from SSR, the points could be combined for a reservation at one resort only at 7 months out.

Example: assume you have 50 June 2015 use year SSR points and today transfer in 50 April 2015 use year SSR points. You could today reserve SSR for a trip beginning Sep 18, 2015 (11 months out from today). If you those April points were from OKW, then the earliest you could reserve that Sep 18, 2015 trip using a combination of both sets of points for SSR would Feb 18, 2015 (7 months out).

Correct as to the first question. You are alos correct you could not transfer 2015 points after you have borrowed them. As to what shows up in the online account for transfer, I believe you are also correct but that is website quirk and not any particular DVC rule that causes that result.

Thank you for clarifying the process!
