Transferring Points Confusion

Okay, I am reading all the posts on this and getting more and more confused--between that and MS answers.

I have Dec '05 points. Can I transfer these into someone else's '06 year?

MS said I couldn't because I can only transfer '05 points into another '05 year. This seemed counterintuitive to me. She said no one would really be able to use these points at this point since the '05 use year is "done" so to speak.

She also said that '05 can only be transferred into '05, and likewise, '06 points can only be transferred into '06.

She also said that whatever I do needs to be put in writing and sent to DVC via e-mail or otherwise. I have never heard this.

What are the answers to these and other transferring mysteries??

Thanks!

I think you need to call and get a different CM this time. Someone is very confused. What in the world is meant by saying the '05 use year is 'done'. Those with December Use Years just started their '05 year a month ago. Members with an October UY are only into their 4th month (out of 12 months) for their '05 Use Year. Those with an August UY aren't even halfway through their '05 year yet.

In the past, MS has transferred points into different Use Year. For example if yours is a Dec Use Year, and you're transferring into someone else's Feb UY, in the past they would take your '05 points and put them into their '06 UY.

Keep in mind they've only done this because their computer systems had no way to assign a temporary sub-contract to an account in order to hold the transferred points. Technically transferred points are suppose to maintain their original Use Year month, Use Year, and home resort. But realistically this doesn't happen. For example if you're transferring Dec '05 OKW points to someone else who only has a Jun UY at BWV, MS has no way to assign the points to the recipient's account other than to their Jun UY BWV contract. They typically make manual notations to show they were transferred in from a different home resort and use year month.

I read this almost constantly on the boards --about MS not being able to really track the transfer points; however, when I recently transferred some "non-home resort" points, MS told me that I would not be able to use them to make reservations at the 11-month window--so I was confused.

That is why, I have since tried to obtain the same home resort points when transferring in and also getting a use year that is the same or one a little later in the year.

So then you can transfer 05 into 06? I don't know why, but the CM was adamant about not...

and you don't need to send a confirmation letter to DVC? I had never heard that one either.
