Transferring or trading ADRS? Can someone explain . . .

When you transfer or trade ADRS, do you give Disney Dining the two party's information and they will actually switch them for you? If so, that's awesome!:thumbsup2

With cancelling ADRS, after hearing of a cancellation, the person who wants it just calls Disney Dining and takes the chance that its still available, right?

With the new system there is no way to change names on a reservation. :(

I hope someone else will post for you if they have done trading!!!

Are you talking about online or can you not call and do it either? I'm sorry, but I am really confused. I've obviously never done this before, but expect there might be a need based on the trouble people are having getting the ADRs they want.

There is technically no way to transfer an ADR, but I was able to pick up Chef Mickey's through coordinating an ADR cancellation with another DIS'er a few days ago. We did this online.

I trolled the swap post and found one that they planned on canceling and PM'ed the individual. They got back to me and coordinated the time they would be cancelling this specific ADR.

By doing this, I was able to pick up the exact time/date of the one that was cancelled (so I'm sure it was theirs).

Things to note:
1. Party size probably must be the same (If swapping with a party of 2 and you need 3 or 4, you might not be able to get it)
2. Do this late night when Disney Dining is closed! (Because it is unlikely anyone online would be looking at that exact ADR place/time you're going for at the exact time you coordinate the cancellation via PM's.)
3. Obviously, you must do it online since Disney Dining is closed.

Good luck!
:goodvibes

Forgot to mention: I did try to coordinate a cancellation during Disney Dining business hours where a nice DIS'er called in to cancel an ADR while I called at the same time. I didn't get it! :-( I think it was because a CSM could see it pop up and grabbed it for someone on the phone. That is why I think you should do this online. Online it was very easy (and no toll call to WDW!)

We had a Chef Mickey's reservation that we no longer needed. Another DISer wanted it, so we just emailed each other and I gave her our name and the ADR # to use when she arrives that morning. :thumbsup2 Figured it was best handled that way as we didn't want to take chances that Disney wouldn't allow a name change and/or she lost the ADR if we tried to cancel/her book at same time. You never know. :confused3

This only works if you don't plan on making any other ADR's for that same date/time frame.

From what I've been reading on the DIS, Disney is supposedly actively cancelling double bookings. So if you give someone your Chef Mickey breakfast ADR, and then make a booking for Donald's Safari at the Tusker House, you risk having both ADR's cancelled. :scared1:

Not worth the risk.

Now that makes perfect sense! I wasn't even thinking about doing it online. Duh . . .

I never would've thought of this. So, you really don't change anything - you just show up with someone else's confirmation number and pretend you're them. I'm assuming the other DISer didn't encounter any problems upon checking in for the ADR? No issues with phone number associated with the ADR or the resort they were staying in or anything? Sorry if I'm a worry wart!;)

Look at my second post.

The time I was unsuccessful when using the phone was the first time I tried getting an ADR from someone who wouldn't give me his ADR #. That is how I thought it was done.

This was his reason, and it makes perfect sense.

He said he couldn't just give me his ADR# because he was planning on making an ADR for breakfast somewhere else that day. If he did, he risks having both ADR's cancelled. So I show up, and find out Disney Dining cancelled the reservation. I'm a worry wart too. His reasoning is sound and I wouldn't risk the cancellation either. Other posts here say disney IS cancelling double bookings.

Now if the person isn't going to Disney anymore (trip cancelled) or is staying offsite (so they don't have a "Reservation Number") and won't be making another reservation for that time frame, the giving of an ADR # would probably work. But I NEED to know I'm getting in! :lmao: So I wouldn't try it.

I was going to put all that into my last post....about the possible double booking thing and all. You are right about that. People would be taking a chance, for instance, in booking 2 different places for the same morning breakfast meal. For us, it's no problem. I had booked CM on our departure day. DH didn't want to 'rush around' from resort to resort before being picked up by Magical Express around 1pm. So, we're not going anywhere else at that time. Problem solved...just gave them the ADR# and our name. I'm sure they'll have no problem at the podium, as that's all they ask for when checking in...your name.
IF it was a case of wanting to eat somewhere else, then I guess you'd have to take the chance of cancelling/other person booking at same time on-line. I'm just not sure if I'd take the chance phoning in to deal with it. You MAY get a CM who doesn't mind changing all that's required around OR you could end up with a CM who would insist on putting the ADR right back into the availability pool!!!
It's a tough one. :headache:

PS: **I may actually email her (the peole who are taking our Chef Mickey's ADR) with our resort and phone # info as well...just in case she needs it????? Is that safe...secure, whatever you call it???? :confused3:confused3:confused3**

If you're not planning on making another ADR for that time frame, the user will be totally all set with just the Name/ADR #.

I kind of figured from the way you wrote your post that in your instance that wouldn't be using it or making another reservation, but wanted the OP to be aware of what she needs to know/ask when just grabbing an ADR# from someone. A lot of people are double booking with the new online ADR system and according to posters on the DIS both ADR's were cancelled without any warning. :scared1:

Our last trip in May I actually cancelled a BF ADR for 1900PF on our departure day. So I understand about not wanting to run around the morning of your last day while having to check out.

Giving up a CM Breakfast to a fellow DIS'er is awesome though and hopefully you'll be rewarded with some pixie dust on your upcoming trip. :goodvibes

I was poking around yesterday on the September ADR Trade or Cancel thread and a Diser posted they were cancelling Liberty Tree Travern for the day I have having trouble making a reservation at a Magic Kingdom restaurant. I was lucky to go online and snag the reservation after they canceled.

We are doing the same thing, a WONDERFUL Diser made a reservation for the day she departs and wanted to pass on some pixie dust by giving that ressie away to someone. We have her ADR# and last name and this should work just fine as she will no longer be at disney when we dine
