Transfered Points

Just wanted to share my recent experience with the transferring of points. My brother transfered points to me recently. He has a VWL August use year and I have an OKW March use year. The points he transfered to me were his current year's points. We did a conference call with MS and the CM we spoke to told us the points, once transferred, would expire the last day of Feb. 2008, my use year. When I questioned her and stated I thought they retained their original use year, she had to go and check. She came back and said I was correct, that they do retain their original use year. I told her I would like to bank these points, she said I could at any time, even though they were past the Aug. banking window. (Which I was pretty sure was the case, but needed to ask.) I could not bank them immediately though, I had to wait about 3 days before I could do this. OK. I called back, banked the transferred points, and the CM I spoke to told me it would take at least 3 days for them to show up in my account and I would then be able to call back and get a banking number. I called back 3 days later and yes they were in my account and now it appears they have morphed into my use year (and no banking number). I e-mailed MS and asked for verification and the response was there is no banking number when banking transferred points because it is done manually and I now have xxx number of points in my March 2008 use year, mine plus the transferred points. What the heck! Okay, it didn't really matter to me what use year they were in, we aren't going to use them for anything in particular any way, but I'm sure for some owners it could be a problem. I guess the moral is make sure you know what the heck is going on, don't count on things going according to the stated policy.

Did they change into OKW points as well?

That was something I forgot to ask, I have e-mailed MS and am waiting a reply. I was so surprised about the use year I didn't think to ask whether they retained their org. resort or morphed into mine. I'll let you know.

Point morphing still exists. We had a reservation at SSR on transfered home resort points. We had to change the trip date. MS canceled our existing reservation and tried to issue us a new resi for our new date at SSR. They told me that I wasn't at the 7 month mark. so I couldn't make a resi. I reminded her that she just canceled my old resi, where did those points go. She told me that they were BCV points so the went back to the BCV account. I asked her, "if they were BCV points, how did I have a 11 month resi at SSR"? She said that it must have been a mistake. I explained point morphing to her and she laughed. She said that she had never heard of it and didn't know that it could happen. To make a long story short, she took my information and said that someone would get back to me. A few days passed and we were at 7 months for SSR. I called and the dates were available so I booked with the morphed SSR/BCV points. I'm still waiting for MS to call back. :sad2:

That happened to me this year. I went to my account on line to check how many points I had left to bank. It showed 30 less than it should have avaliable to bank. When I called to ask why the CM said I couldn't bank transfered points. I explained that yes if fact I can and the points that were transfered had a April use year while my points are Feb. so I should have 2 months extra time to bank the transfered points He said again that transfered points could not be banked. I asked him to speak to a supervisor. He was upset I asked that, but said...fine! He came bank on the line upset that I was right, but he said it would require a MANUAL adjustment (I typed in all caps because he said it like it was a big deal). OK...then manually do it. I was upset now! I transfered in BCV points paying a premium. I own at BCV and didn't want to run into a snag with my reservation. But I don't think it matters! I know it is supposed to and it should because without it I or someone who owns at BCV (or whichever resort) could have an unfair advantage using the booking window.

I have to say though in most cases the CMs that work for member services are knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.

I heard back from MS today concerning the resort status of the points my brother transferred to me. The transferred and banked points retain their org. use year and resort, which is what I initially thought. But it is not the same response I received when I checked to make sure the points were actually banked. I don't think this person actually checked my account, he merely stated policy. The first e-mail response from MS told me exactly how many points were in my March 2008 use year and these included the banked transferred points. I guess I will just have to wait until I am ready to use those points and see what happens.

Bumping so I can ask a question regarding length of time usually required for a transfer.

I called MS on Wednesday morning July 11 to transfer points. The CM said that since they were going from my 2008 Use Year into the other member's October 2007 Use Year, it might take up to 48 hours for the transfer to reflect. I stated that I thought the Use Year didn't matter because the points retained their original booking windows and resort priority. She said that while that was true, it still may take up to 48 hours for the transfer.

As of yesterday afternoon, July 13, the points had not transferred yet. The CM I spoke with said that there were notes on my account indicating the transfer had been initiated, just not completed. :headache:

This is the first time I've ever transferred points. How long does it usually take for the transfer to reflect on each member's inventory?

Thanks in advance for anyone with more insight into the transfer world,
Dan

I dont know if this helps.I received a transfer with the same use year and when I called MS the same day they said that they were there. The points have never shown up on my website but Ive talked to 2 different people at MS and they both said that they could see them on their computer screen.

we transferred points to a friends account last month and they were there almost immediately and they were able to make their res at that time.
