I don't think I'm getting this whole thing about transferring.

Here's my story. We will be going to BWV in Nov. 2001, then we are going again with two friends in May, but I think I will be around 30 points short. My use year is June. So, I will be using all my 2001 points and I will have borrowed my 2002 points for the two trips but I would have to wait until June to borrow from my 2003 points, isn't this correct? I was hoping that someone would trade me 30 points to use in May 2002, and then the next month, I would give them back the 30 points. Can this be done?

Yes, it can be done as long as you and the person you are transferring in from one use year and transfer out from another. You and your transferring partner would be using up your transferring ability for 2 use years each. It seems like a lot to give up for 30 points. You would be better off making the reservations in each other's account.

Or you could rent the extra points either by having the person you're renting from make the reservations for the days you need extra or transfering the points to you. Transfering is harder because the points can't be banked or borrowed and as noted, you use the the once a year transfer option for both parties.

I didn't realize transferring was so involved. Like I said before, we haven't even stayed at "home" yet. Do you think it would be better if I could just find someont to make reservations for me, and then in June when my points become available, I could make reservations for them. I hope this can be done without renting points because that would be expensive. Thanks for the info. As soon as my friend has her airline reservations in hand I will start working on this. Do you think it will be difficult getting a studio for Memorial Day weekend?

Well, my problem is solved. I was chosen in the DVC lottery and now I can use my own points. Thanks for your help.

Could you please explain what the DVC lottery is? I'm thinking of buying but still have questions like this.
Thank You,
Fred

Fred -- Don't be concerned about the lottery. This was an unusual circumstance that just happened. As you may know, OKW and BWV are sold out. Apparently, DVC had a relatively small amount of BWV points (from sales that didn't go throught, etc.) that they opted to offer to DVC members looking to buy additional points. They took names from the waiting list and did a "lottery" to offer them for sale. To my knowledge, this has never been done before and may not happen again. (I'm not positive whether the lottery also had some OKW points or not.)

Feel free to ask any and all questions that will help with your decision. :smooth: :smooth:
