Can someone please explain the transfer rules to me?
Someone on the rent/trade board is saying that while you can EITHER transfer in OR transfer out only one WAY each year, if you choose to transfer in(for example), you can transfer in multiple times within that use year.
Sorry if this sounds confusing, but if this is correct, it is great news to me.

They used to allow that, but the actual rule has always been (and they are now enforcing it) ONE transfer per use year, period. It can be in or out, but not both, and again, just one per use year.

Actually the rule was changed early in 2003 to allow multiple transfer and changed back in July 2006.

if you borrow points from yourself can you then transfer points into your account from another member in the same year or not?

thanks in advance. it's confusing.

If you have different master contracts (the first numbers are different and not just .1, .2, etc), then you use your once a year transfer to transfer points from one master contract to another. So no more transfers that year.

We've done that once or twice with our small 50 point resale that we bought.

DVC's past would suggest this is true but the reverse may not be. If you transfer points in then have to transfer from another account owned by the same person, one still may be able to do so. It's handled on a case by case basis but is not automatically a no go.

Nope, Dean, when I transferred the points from one master to the other, they told me I used my once a year transfer for each account.

As I've noted many times, just because someone at MS says it doesn't make it true. They've always said transferred points keep their home resort and use year and this doesn't even appear to be true currently even though many of us wish it were.

I can tell you for a fact that the rules break down in this arena. I've transferred banked points and done multiple transfers between master contracts on multiple occasions under the pre 2003 one per use year policy. While I haven't done so since they reverted to the one per year in July, I know of at least two instances where the rules were "flexible" in this situation after the rules changed back and contrary to your posting. But it's usually when you come up against other rules or specials situations. The one's the come to mind are when you don't have enough points in a single master to make that last night reservation and the other is when all points must be in a single contract such as cruises or exchanges. I'm sure many will be told no but there will be certain situations where flexibility will be allowed for multiple contracts of a single owner.

So, is there a "hard and fast rule" regarding the transfer of banked points? I have a whopping 6 points banked from 2006 into 2007 use year. They will expire 1/31/2008. I'd like to transfer them to a friend's account, but have read a couple of posts which seem to conflict over whether I can or cannot transfer these few points.
Thanks in advance!
Larry

There is a hard and fast rule with an occasional exception. The only exceptions I'm aware of is multiple contracts of a single owner. The best approach in this situation would be to reserve a single night for your friend and link to any other reservations. He could even transfer a few points to you to complete the night if needed and you have no other transfer plans.

Quice question- Are you only allowed to transfer current year points? You mention transferring banked points. Are you also allowed to borrow points to transfer?

No, you can only transfer current use year points but in many cases you can potentially transfer from two different use years. You can also not borrow transferred points but you can bank them once transferred.

Question:

Our August UY has the main contract at BCV and two add-on contracts at BWV. Are each of these 3 contracts considered separate as far as banking goes? ie, can I transfer into each contract one time?

TIA!

Sounds like you have a master and two "true" add ons. If so, the master contract will have a number like abcdef and the add ons will have the same number with a suffix - i.e., abcdef.001 and abcdef.002

If that is the case, they are considered as one contract for banking and one contract for transferring.
