Does anyone have suggestions on best way to handle transfers to insure both parties are protected (i.e. use contract ? pts deposit first then cash pmt or other way around., paypal or other..)? Is there a thread on best way to conduct transfers?

Thanks

It's a toss up and Disney won't help if the deal falls through. With so many members wanting to get rid of points before the expire, we are bound to see some rip offs. :sad2:

DVC will not offer any assistance with a transfer because the policy is clearly stated in our POS that no monetary exchange is allowed.

Some have been successful with 50% up front and the balance after the transfer - that way both parties have some exposure. Others insist on full payment in advance and some insist on full payment afterwards. I'm not aware of any recent problems with point transfers.

Good luck! :)

I'd like to think members wouldn't be ripping off fellow members, that risk is higher if you're dealing with non-DVC members and renting to them.

I've transferred points in once to my account a couple years ago and transferred points out once last year. In both cases, payment was made first, then the transfer made. In my case of transferring in to my account, I paid with paypal and the fellow member called and instantly transferred the points to me. No hassle at all.

When I transferred points out last year, the fellow member was more comfortable sending me a certified bank check in the mail rather than a paypal transfer. No problem. As soon as I got and deposited the bank check, I called MS and transferred the points to her. No hassle at all.

Both transactions were for about 120 points, I think.

I think doing a transfer is much easier that renting to or from someone.

I only did a transfer once but this is what we did and it worked out fine.
