Transfer Question

I own at BWV. I have an August use year.

What if I want to get points from someone who has OKW (or any other resort besides BWV) - are those transferred points, which are now in my BWV account, considered BWV points or OKW points? Do I get my standard 11 month window?

Same question for use year. Do the transferred points then become my use year? Or am I now bound by a new use year?

I am just trying to figure out how the accounting works.

Thanks - since I think I already need some more points this year...and can't afford an add-on!

While there may have been times when transferred points have been combined with points from another resort to be used at 11 months. the transferred points are supposed to retain original Use Year and home resort status (and thus the 11/7 reservation priority).

I'd hate to have points transferred to my account expecting to be able to use them at another resort at 11 months and then find that it (the reservation) won't be allowed by MS until 7 months.

There is a problem with the MS computers and transferred points. The technical answer is the points should retain their use year and home resort. The truth is DVC can't monitor this at present and the points will assume you're use year and home resort. That might be good or bad depending on specifics. They are working on this problem currently and it may change any day to what it should be.

I have read all the posts on transferred points, and I still get confused. Can you bank transferred points? If I transferred my points, about to expire, into someones account, could they bank them into their next use year?

Thanks for all of the information. I have read most of the other threads on transfer points, but some of it was confusing. I just wanted to know (basically) if I needed to get BWV transfer points, or another resort.

I remembered reading from another BWV DVC member got points from a Hilton Head owner - with the hopes of using the 11 months advantage at HH. When that person went to make the reservation - s/he was not able to get the 11 month advantage, because the system did not recognize the points at HH points...

However, if I want the 11 month advantage - I will get BWV points to be safe. Thanks!

It is theoretically possible one could extend the life of points by transferring them and then banking them. My guess is DVC will get this glitch fixed within the year and all will revert to the written rules.

I had points transferred into my account and wanted them to retain their home resort so I could use them for the eleven month window. When I went to make reservations MS had to get a manager to do it and call me back as they had become the home resort of my contract (VWL) instead of BCV which is what they were when they were transferred. It took several phone calls but it can be done with persistance.
