Hi, if I book a reservation using my points, and subsequently transfer in someone else's points, can I substitute the transferred points for the already existing reservation? Or do I need to cancel my reservation with my points, and rebook with the transferred points? I see a number of decent transfer deals every month, so just wondering.

You are going to need to cancel and rebook with the other points. Once the points are used there is no changing them.

It all depends on whether or not you booked before or after 7 months. If you book a room using the home resort booking advantage then you can only use transferred points if they are also home resort points. This also assumes that the points are for in the use year of the reservation because transferred points cannot be borrowed. If you booked 7 months or less from checkin, then no matter what the home resort of the points is, you should be able to substitute the transferred points without canceling and rebooking (again assuming that the transferred points are in the same use year as the reservation). Be forewarned that some CMs at MS are more familiar with this process than others. If you get someone who seems uncomfortable or less than knowledgable, ask for a supervisor or hang up and call back. Good luck!

Sorry, but this is not correct. I have reallocated points several times after booking a reservation without having to cancel and rebook. As PP stated, it does depends on the home resort and UY of the points, but it most certainly can be done.
