Transfer Points Between Two Contracts

I have multiple contracts and in the process of selling one. I do not want to have the 2016 points in the contract I am selling (because the increased resale value is less than my use or rental). A looong story, but I cannot have the points re-allocated to solve my problem based on point types already used on stays this year and points on current reservations (Note: I wish points should be reallocated to any reservation used or unused with the same UY).

I have been told by the broker selling my contract (mentioned highly on this site), since I have two contracts, I can do my annual transfer instead of one member to another from one contract to another (my own) which solves my problem.

My friends at DVC have told me points can only be transferred to another membership (normally another person). Since all my contracts have the same UY, I only have one membership. HOWEVER, if I had multiple contracts having a different UY, I would then have multiple memberships and then they would be able to transfer the points.

Has anyone run into this situation in the past?

Any suggestions ?

Transfers are between memberships - even if they are your own.

Since you have only one membership there isn't a second one to transfer to.

What exactly is the issue with reallocating the points? You would have to have a delayed closing which can be a little less appealing depending on how far out the delay is but it isn't the worst thing.

I transfer points from my small Dec OKW contract to my larger Sept contract all the time.

How about transferring your 2016 points to another member - that's probably a quicker way to get value from those points than another trip or renting them & waiting to close until after the stay or rental is complete. The points for transfer generally go pretty quickly assuming they are offered at a market price.

Good luck!

I think your friend is correct but while the question has come up over the years a couple of times, I don't recall seeing anyone who pushed it. I'd call MS and tell them what's going on and ask if they can do the transfer. Normally transfers are between masters. Another option, one with some cost, work and time, is to change the ownership making it a separate membership. That's likely more trouble than it's worth. I'd likely just rent the points then sell.
