I tried searching it couldn't find the answer to my question so if this is address I would appreciate the link but here is the question:

So if I rent or buy points from someone at a different home resort can I take advantage of their 11 month window? If I wanted to rent points from someone to utilize their booking window I see a big risk mitigation to have them transfer the points into my account? Does UY mater or if they had to borrow?

Thank you for your responses.

Transferred points retain their original Use Year and Home Resort. So, yes, you can take advantage of their 11 month window.

Only native points can be transferred (i.e. the points cannot have ever been banked or borrowed).

of your questions, I'm not sure if I fully understand what you were asking but this may help.

- a member can transfer their current use year points into your member account. Once that member transfers those points to your membership they cannot remove them from your account. You then 'control' for lack of a better word how those points get utilized. Speaking for ourselves this is why if we need some extra points we prefer a transfer instead of having a 'rental' whereby the person renting the points has to set up the reservation and they continue to have 'control' over that reservation ( ie : they can cancel it ).

An example of a transfer scenario :

- Member A has OKW home resort & has December Use Year and on December 1st 2008 transfers all or a portion of that current use year's points to Member B's account.

- Member B now may utilize the points transferred from Member A as they'd like :

~ for instance Member B can during third week of December 2008 (sorry don't have calendar handy) begin making day by day reservation for OKW for Thanksgiving week 2009 taking advantage of 11 month booking window of the transferred OKW points. The transferred points retain the OKW Home Resort booking priority.

~ also, Member B can bank those OKW transferred points by July 31, 2009 for use from December 1, 2009 through November 30, 2010.

~ if Member B doesn't use these transferred points by Nov. 30, 2009 and did not bank them by July 31, 2009 they will expire on Nov. 30, 2009.

Also Member B would not be able to transfer the transferred points from Member A to another member's account.

You COMPLETELY understood my question and this is EXACTLY the info I needed:worship: . I'm looking to "rent" points to use another resort 11 month window and I thought if I could retain the window for that resort a transfer would be much better than "renting" them.

ALso, remember that once transfered, points cannot be borrowed. So the month of the UY can also matter. If you want to make a reservation for Thanksgiving 2009, you don't want a transfer of December 09 points! -- Suzanne

Like Suzanne said, be sure of Use Year; it must cover time during which you want to utilize the transferred points or be sure that banking the transferred points will cover your dates. If you plan to bank transferred points be certain you are still within the banking window before accepting the transfer. Once again using December 2008 Use Year as example : if these points are transferred to you after July 31 2009 you will NOT be able to bank them and they will expire on Nov 30,2009 if not used.

For extra insurance I have called Member Services just to double check banking deadline and to be sure transferred points are in fact useable during dates I'm planning my reservation to be.

Only other thing I can think of at moment is since members are only permitted one transfer per Use Year be sure of amount of points you need so you get enough points transferred to cover your reservation.

Good Luck !

It is Dec UY, I called MS to verify I could bank etc, I believe I have to at least end of July. It will be enough points for our trip, these forums are great - thank everyone yet again. Buying pts is a good way to supplement without the expense of buying - of course it is only 1 year. But $10-11 a point is not bad when you figure $4-5 is for maint fee if I owned them so it is an addional $5-6 to rent -- cheaper then renting from WDW, seems like a good deal to me? Would be nice if we could use more than one transfer a year but understand why they limit it.
