Transfer or linked reservations?

Not sure about this one. Here's the story:

We have 1BR ressies for BCV Dec. 2-8. We have friends that just signed paperwork for SSR yesterday. They will be vacationing the same time as us. They currently have ressies for the Poly but since they are new members they are hoping to use points somewhere. I told them to call and get on a WL for anywhere. They suggested if we could get a 2BR and "split" the points.

My question is this: if we "split" the points would it be easier to transfer half the point cost of the 2BR or could we both make a 3 day ressie (ours the first part of the week and theirs the 2nd part) and have them linked so we wouldn't have to move? That way there'd be no transfer of points and we both use points. Although one of us would use more points than the other since we are staying a weekend night.

Any thoughts or suggestions? :confused3

If these are good friends, and they are not going to cancel or change the dates, *AND* there is still availability for your dates, then linking is the best option, since you don't tie up both of your (your's and your friend's) once a year transfers in a single transaction.

But, it these dates are gone, then even a WL won't guarentee sucess. And re-checking your post, if you mean Dec. 2006, then, the odds of a waitlist comming in are very small.

I would have them make a ressie for me later next year, for half the points you are spending.

Good Luck!

I linked a reservation with a friend in April. I did day 1, she did day 2 (Friday), I did days 3 & 4. It was no problem, when we checked in, everything looked like 1 reservation, including our dining plan.

Cool! Thanks so much for both of your replies. If we can we'll probably do the linked ressies that way there's no transfer of points.

Yep, I warned them that they are going to have a difficult shot getting a reservation anywhere this late in the game. Advised WL'ing for any resort for that week. They still have their Poly ressie and won't cancel that until they get something firm at DVC.

We'll just keep our fingers crossed.

They ought to call their DVC Guide to see if he/she can help in any way. Sometimes they can work a little magic. Maybe not at BCV, but maybe somewhere else.
