Wanted to get some feedback from those who have either received or transferred points to/from another member.... We are looking for 150-200 ish pts at BWV or BCV within the next two years and before I start answering points I wanted to see how folks executed the transaction... did you pay up-front? half before or after or all once transfer occurred... I am a little leary of this and would appreciate some feedback.

BTW, we own at SSR and BWV and have been members since '97.

I have done this several times over the last few years. We're members since 2000 and every 3 years or so we host our families for a reunion at Disney and those years I need a few extra points and I prefer transfer of points rather than renting. I've always paid up front, never paid more than $10 a point, once by personal check and twice by Paypal. The 1st time I was a little scared but I researched the DVC member by looking at their Dis account. You can tell alot by the threads people post or respond to and how long they have been members. We exchanged e-mails and phone numbers and it went well, withing minutes of her receiving my check she called MS and the points were in my acoount to do with as I pleased. With Paypal I did the same and researched the DVC'r by looking at their Dis info, threads, questions etc. and their Paypal account info. Right after the money hit their account they called MS and e-mailed me and I made my reservations within minutes. The most important thing is to make sure the points are transferred in the correct use year. All in all a very easy process! Good luck to you.

I've done it 4 times and only once for my home resort which didn't matter since my reservations were within the 7 month mark.

The 1st ime I did it was for 24 points, I was a little apprehensive, but I thought if it didn't go well I wouldn't be happy but I'd only be out $240 and it was fine. The last two times it was for 114 points $1140, and they asked to do it w/ Paypal and I already had a Paypal account so it was easy to!

Who paid the fees??

Are you going to WDW next week? We will be there also!

Thanks again!

I just went through a transfer of points and it was great :goodvibes

I paid half through Paypal and then the member transferred their points, once I confirmed the transfer of points with MS, I transferred the rest of the money.

I liked this way since both of us had some sort of risk - I paid $10 per point.

Would do it again in a heartbeat - prefer to have control of the reservation so prefer this rather than renting.

I paid the paypal fee.

Hello,
I recently looked into this, but we decided against it. Is transfering points "legal?" Was not sure if DVC allowed it.

I recently did it this way myself. We stayed on the phone together the whole time, I mde the the first payment, we called MS, transferred points, I made the second payment, and we were done. I have done it like this in the past too and has always worked out well.

Yes... you can transfer pts for a particular year into the same use year of another member. You are not transferring your ownership, just the pts for a particular year. And you are only aloud one in or out per use year.

I paid the fees as the buyer!

Yes, we are headed to Disney 2/11-2/15, big school holiday. Frankly, we always go in the Summer (Ist week of June & 1st week of Aug, always in the 90's) and for once I decided I would skip Aug to go in Feb when it's cool.

Really looking forward to it!

I'm confused, as of the paid fees. When using Paypal, you get charged for its use as a buyer? Does not the seller get charged?

This has been my experience, also. I have transfered in points (paying up front with paypal) and transfered out points (getting a certified check which was the purchasers choice of payment up front.) Transfers are really very easy to do. I transfered points for my home resort in so that I could use them at the 11 month mark combined with my own points for a reservation. The points I transfered out were for VLW and someone who wanted to stay there at Christmas was able to use them at the 11 month mark to get their reservation.

Do most people pay up front? What happens if you needed to cancel your trip? How would you get your money back?

You wouldn't. Once the points are transfered to your DVC account, they are yours. You would have to bank them if you couldn't use them.
