Hi I was wondering if anyone knows or by chance has a picture of the transfer bench that the resorts offer????? I am taking ours from home but if it is the same then maybe I won't.

I believe they can get one - we have used handicapped rooms with roll in showers and there was not one in the room.
Transfer benches are not listed in the guides are what are/can be provided.

Note to original poster - can you give us more information about what you mean?
I'm wondering if what you are asking about are the shower benches that are in the roll in showers. If that is what you are talking about, I have some pictures I just have not gotten around to posting yet.

Sorry I don't have a picture but the Polynesian does provide them on request. We tried one for our daughter a few years back in the Hawaii longhouse. And we have also had them in the accessible rooms with tubs at Rapa Nui without requesting them. My daughter couldn't use it as a transfer bench though so it just serves as a surface for her clothes, etc. She isn't stable or strong enough.

We haven't had the tub rooms at Rapa Nui for many years now so I don't know if they are still in those rooms without a request or not.

Isn't it crazy how they put the wall shower benches in the shower? I don't get it.

Anyway, I asked for a shower bench at OKW and they brought me this little thing that looked like a foot stool. My wife and I just laughed at it.

I went to the front desk and spoke to the manager and she told me to go have fun at the park and when I came back she would have the proper bench in the room. As she said, when we returned to the room a proper shower bench was there.

I don't have a picture of it, but I am sure it would fit your needs.

If you are anything like me there is nothing like your own shower bench. I just feel so much safer on my own, but believe me this one was really great.

I bring one of the plastic patio chairs into the shower. I find the fold down bench in the roll in shower unsuitable as the grab bar hits me in the middle of my back. I also could not reach either the water controls or the shower head sitting on the fold down bench.

Actually I love the wall shower benches. I prefer to have something nice and heavy duty to hold me and to hold onto. Something attached to the wall works much better for me then a bench that can tip over.

It's nice that they'll bring a shower bench for those that prefer it and it's nice that they have the wall benches for those that prefer that.

The wall shower benches work out well for DD too.
We have a portable shower bench at home, but she can't use it for showering because it's too unstable for her (I doubt anyone will be able to picture how we do use it, but it is used as a 'bridge' for her to lie down while using the toilet).

I like it that you can fold the shower benches at WDW back up so that they are available for people who need them, but can be folded away for those who can't use that type.

We are staying in the Hawaii longhouse and they told me that they could provide my DD with a transfer bench seeing as it will be a tub in the room and not a roll in shower. My daughter can not step into a tub, her transfer bench here at home is one that has 1/2 inside the tub and 1/2 outside the tub so my daughter can sit on it outside of the tub and then the seat slides on over.

I think what they might do is rent them as needed since (or if they have any, they provide them as requested).
They could have a better selection and not have to maintain an inventory of them themselves if they just rent them as needed from someplace like Care Medical. You could try asking where they are getting it from - if it's an outside company, they probably have pictures on their website.

The ones we've had over the years were of a different style if I'm understanding your description correctly.

The seat did not slide. Instead it was one continual bench with one half that is put out of the tub and the other in. One would have to scootch over.

The legs were adjustable too at least the ones in Rapa Nui. As I said she couldn't use it as a transfer bench but did use it as an extra surface in the bathroom. The legs were adjusted so the bench was even on the floor. You could adjust it to make it work in the tub.

The style could have changed because as I said it has been several years now.

I agree with Bill too. The builtin shower benches are great for those who need them. :thumbsup2

Sue, I don't think the Polynesian rents them. As I said they were in the rooms without a request in Rapa Nui....tub rooms only.

You beat me to it. I love the shower benches too and couldn't imagine staying in the resort without it. At home I have a shower chair and a roll-in shower and I find the accomodations awesome at the resort. I don't think it's crazy at all :confused3

It was just a guess knowing that some resorts do rent things like that. Maybe wrong.
We were in a tub room at Coronado recently and there were lots of grab bars and a sort of seat-shelf at the back end of the tub, but nothing else. I haven't seen the rooms at the Polynesian, but I imagine they are bigger and would have more space for putting a bench.

I guess for peace of mind I will bring her own transfer bench this way she won't be nervous

If you can, that is probably the best. That way you will know you have something that works for her.
