Transfer and use year question

I am planning a grand gathering at BLT for 2011 and am considering the option of transferring points into my account later this year rather than booking the additional rooms we would need as cash reservations. Am I correct that I could do this in 3 ways with respect to my use year?

1. Have 2010 points transferred in and then bank them (assuming they have not past their banking deadline)
2. Have 2011 points transferred in
3. Have 2012 points transferred in and then borrow them at the time of booking my reservation (this I wasn't sure about as I have not been able to find anything on if you are allowed to borrow transferred points)

Have people found in general it is easier to go through a points transfer or just book additional rooms as a cash reservation for the years their vacations require greater points. One thing I am thinking about is that if they continue the policy of only DVC members staying on points being able to access the TOTW lounge, then half of our party staying on points would be able to go, but those with the cash reservation rooms would not. In order to transfer points, someone has to be in their UY in order to do that (you can only transfer current UY points).

So, I don't think you can get 2012 points for a 2011 vacation. You could get 2011 points, but the first UY is Feb, so you would not be able to get those points until then (and depending on when you trip is 2011, this may be too late).

I think the best option is to secure a transfer during the 2010 UY. You can then bank those points for use during the 2011 UY. Just be sure that you know the UY that your trip will fall in terms of your own, and the UY of the transferred points if it is different, before banking them.

For example, you find points with a June UY. The 2010 points are still good all the way through May 31st, 2011. If you were traveling at the beginning of 2011 and got points those points, you would not have to bank them to use them.

Why not just get the others in your gathering to book their own spaces? Either by renting a member's reservation or booking directly with Disney??

IF you are doing weekend days you might be better to do points on the week and cash on the weekends.

If the BLT rooms are booked through MS for cash then those guests are permitted access to TOTW.

On your transfer questions, you can probably get more specific answers if you post your UY month and what month this trip would take place, but for now, in addition to what has been posted as far as I know :

2010 points can be banked to 2011 UY; and while MS has been known to allow transferred points to be banked even if it's beyond banking deadline, I would want to play it safe and be sure the transferred points are still within the banking window before having them transferred in.

2011 points can be transferred into your 2011 UY and MS may allow that transfer of 2011 UY points to occur at time which will allow you to take advantage of 11 month priority booking window; you'd have to get BLT points transferred to book BLT at 11 months before check-in date you'd want.

As poster Bookwormde stated you can't borrow transferred points so that would take 2012 UY points off table for a trip during your 2011 UY.

BUT if you are still within your 2009 UY you may be able to find a member with their 2009 UY allotment of points still available to transfer into your 2009 UY and then banking those 2009 points to 2010 UY could still possibly have them available for your trip in 2011.
~ just keep in mind this would work only if that transferring member's UY month comes at a time that would allow you to make use of banked 2009 transferred points at a point during 2011 where they'd still be valid.
~ For example, if the member's UY is October they are still in their 2009 UY and if you are still in your 2009 UY they can transfer points into your 2009 UY & you can bank these points to 2010 UY which then makes them valid for use from Oct 1 2010 through Sept 30 2011 In this example it presumes your trip would have a checkout date no later than Sept 30 2011; if so then this could be an additional transfer of points that you can have along with getting a transfer in of 2010 UY points and 2011 UY points.
~ The LATEST transferred in 2009 UY points that are then banked could be used for a trip in 2011 would be if they are from a member with December UY, then banking points from that member's DEC 2009 UY into 2010 would have those points available for a trip taking place from
Dec 1 2010 through Nov 30 2011.

I see where a previous poster says this can't be done ....maybe it was done wrong, but I know that in June 2008 I had a member transfer her June 2009 use year points for BCV into my account (June 2009 use year also). I was later able to bank some of the unused points into the June 2010 year.

We started working on our "transfer in December of 2007 because I made a reservation for her at one of my resorts using my 11 month window. In turn she made this transfer, but was told by MS that she would have to wait until June of 2008 to transfer the June 2009 points. I wanted 2009 points so that I would be able to bank them into 2010.

These points were transferred into my June 2009 use year (on June 2008); therefore, I used them only for trips from June 2009 forward. I banked the remaining BCV points into June 2010 year. Since they were transferred points, as I understand it, they could not have been borrowed into use year 2008. I had a large quantity (210) transferred, which is one reason I wanted to have them go into 2009 use year, so that I could bank them and use them as long as possible.

As I said, I don't know if MS was supposed to do this, but they were the ones that said we would have to wait until June 2008 to do the transfer.
