Transfer and renting - difference?

Please can someone explain the difference between transfer and renting of points?

We may be in a position where we shall have to let go of some points or we will lose them. I'd like to know what my options are

Transferring points is literally arranging with MS to transfer points from, say, your account to the account of another DVC member. Only one transfer of points, either in or out, is allowed per year. So, if you were to transfer to another member you would both have used up that privilege for one use year. Presumably the transferor would want some kind of recompense for the points transferred out.

Renting points is where the DVC member makes a reservation on behalf of another person (either a DVC member or not), and that other person then pays the DVC member for the privilege of using the points.
