If I wanted to book a 2019 Med cruise when they are announced to lock in rate and booked a Verandah, would I be able to switch to a concierge (if available) at a later date and still get the opening rate vs the rate at time of transfer?

When you upgrade to a new category on the same cruise, you will pay the same fare as it was the date you initially booked. I don't watch concierge rates much, but I don't believe they increase as quickly as the regular fares. Just be aware that once you upgrade to concierge, the deposit becomes non-refundable, even if you later decide to downgrade. Also, if you are using an OBB or placeholder, there is no discount for concierge.

Enjoy your cruise!

We've switched to Concierge twice. Both times we paid going rate, not initial booking rate.

Really? That must be different for concierge than other categories. If you upgrade any other category, you should get the new-category fare that was in effect on the date you booked your old-category. I never knew concierge was any different. Thanks for sharing!

The switch must be on the same cruise to get initial booking rates. If you change dates, you pay prevailing rates. As others have posted.
