Transatlantic Question - Port or Starboard?

If you have sailed a Transatlantic, were you port or starboard (and which direction, were you going)? Can you tell me about the sun/temperature for your side? We are booked in a starboard cabin for EBTA. I know it will be shady port side, but I also don't like to be in the blazing sun, so maybe it would be better if we switched to port?

Please share your experiences! Any other tips would also be welcomed. We are seasoned DCL cruisers, but this is our first TA.

We’ve done the west bound twice in oceanview cabins. I honestly couldn’t tell you how the sun hit our cabin because we were rarely in it. We spent a lot of time on deck 4 and one side was definitely the sun side and the other the shade side. We bounced back and forth or walked laps and enjoyed both.

We just did the WBTA in October / November. We were port. Granted, we traveled at a time of year when the sun wasn't at its peak, especially in terms of heat, but we had no problems with too much or too little sun. I like as much natural light as possible, and we were very happy with the way all that worked out. I don't have any experience with the EBTA, but I can't believe it would be that much different....same sun, different solstice. I'm sure you'll be out of your room much of the time anyway...there were so many unique experience on the TA. Have a great cruise!! :boat:

Westbound in October. Port side for the sunsets! (And generally more light). So Eastbound if you wanted the more sunny side, it would be the starboard side. It was not too hot in October.

So, OP, sailing towards Europe the sun will be on the right, starboard, side of the ship. Pretend it lives at the Equator?

We're on the EBTA. We were originally starboard only because we wanted to be able to see Africa when we sail through the Strait of Gibraltar (or at least have the best chance). But, then we put in to upgrade to concierge and got it, and it's a room on the port side so there we go! We'll just go up on deck the night we pass through the Strait.

BTW, are you the Kathi who's been posting all the schedules (beverage tastings, excursions, etc.) in the Facebook group? The name is spelled the same way and I immediately wondered if it was you. :)
