TransAtlantic Hitting very bad seas!

I the EBTA takes a southern route next year, and then goes east. I think I would prefer the WB due to the time change anyway. I think the wb goes north this year. Maybe someday will find out the route of next years WB.

Yes, that's right, I totally forgot. Next year's EBTA definitively is more souther. However, the stretch between the Azores and England could become bumpy, too.

This year's WBTA is actually more southern than the EBTA - most of Europe is that far more northern than the USA. Naples, Italy and New York City are about on the same latitude.

I am hoping for another WBTA to San Juan. I should have jumped on that when they had it...

I'm definitely of the opinion rough seas can happen at any time and we've had some nutty weather/seas on the Bahamas/Caribbean sailings. I also think it's a matter of perspective as ten people can be on the same ship and opinions/experiences vary from "we almost sank" to "it was nothing at all". I don't mean to take away from anyone's experience but I've seen it happen and that's ok as people just have a different comfort and threshold. On our Norway/Iceland/Scotland sailing after we had left Iceland and were in the North Sea (as my memory recalls) we hit some pretty rough seas. The waves splashed up against our deck 2 window and it was pretty wild. My DH was LOVING it however walking around the ship there were several people sick, kids having to sit down as they were too ill to walk, people looking green, etc. We were totally fine and not bothered at all but it was a little challenging to walk.

I was on this sailing. I think that was worse, but this has been of longer duration. Outdoor deck events that were originally scheduled for the past few days (like pirate night) have been rescheduled to later in the week.

Indeed and we expected it to be that way and with that said - it really wasn't that bad IN OUR OPINION but if you asked several of my other cruisers they would have a different opinion

Yes, different cruisers feel different things, I have booked Palo brunch on North Sea days and been fine to eat it, others there cancelled on the North Sea they couldn't eat.

But it is worth research, you are more likely to get bad weather on Spring TAs and in the North Sea, - you can be lucky, but if prone to seasickness stick to the Med, ( most of the time), and Caribbean, and Alaska.

I can see how this going on for a longer time can get annoying! Hope the Magic will find calmer seas soon. Enjoy the cruise! A transatlantic is very much on my bucket list!

Yes the 2007 EBTA actually took on water in lower decks through some portholes, this was prior to refurbishments.

The sailing routes on the North Atlantic, north or south really does not matter. Rough and heavy seas are found where ever the winds blow and the currents prevale. The vessels tend to sail in a north route because they follow a * great circle* route which, archs the vessel into the northern Latitudes over the entire voyage, saves them many miles and quite a few hours of time and tons of fuel.

However as the said earlier, as far as rough seas, you will find rough seas and winds north or south. May Ran and Aegir (Norse goddess and God) grant the Magic a smoother voyage!

OK what dam fool left some pot holes open? That kind of poor seamanship has sunken more then 1 vessel.

I think it was more the seals around the glass was not watertight. Has been improved. It allowed high seas to seep in.

Exact opposite I say, mid deck, mid ship, deck 2 is the very worst place to be, the waves have small random movements there, higher up its a long sway. You need fresh air and view the horizon.

Don't know about that horizon thing. I remember a ferry ride from Wales to Ireland when I was miserably seasick. That horizon line kept going up and down and up and down and up and down. It was not good.

It does work.

Do not ever look straight down.

Just ask those who have been in the Cozumel boats to the mainland, there low, enclosed and you can't see out, many are seasick as you can't view the horizon. Yes try to do it port or starboard closer to midship, do not do it st the aft or forward points.

Lundando Wales to Dublin is choppy on the Irish Sea at the best of times.

Don't remind me of that one, I thought I was on the wildest water roller coaster in the world, it was awful, saw waves/wake going on top of the ferry. I will never do that again. We weren't seasick to a terrible degree (took meds) queasiness for abt. an hour after but, heck that was one scary ride.
On way back to ship the capt. of the ferry assured me it was not going to be as bad. It wasn't as bad as the morning but people still got sick, thank goodness for Dramamine . During our excursion, at lunch, I overheard one couple looking into hiring a helicopter to get back to their ship, but it was like 1k to charter one last min, ....believe me I thought about it for a quick second.

also don't try and run on a treadmill during busy seas, I should have known better when I saw them all empty.... I over heard another lady talking about the same thing at the show and how it made her sick... so at least I wasn't the only dip...

We were on the 2005 EBPC on the outskirts of Hurricane Hilary and it was very rough but we were mid ship on Deck 2 and had absolutely no issues with seasickness. We were also on 2015's EBTA mid ship on Deck 2 and also had no problems. It was rough on a few days but nothing terrible. I actually like when its rocking and rolling.

I think this years EBTA went up to Canada?? I can't remember. I like the itinerary on the EBTA and I like the price. I don't get to say I like the price too often when talking about a DCL cruise. I like the fact that it takes a more southern route because maybe it will be a little warmer.
I think what happened in 2007 is probably more the exception than the norm. It seems like for the most part the weather on the EBTA has been good with maybe a couple of rough days, but nothing that bad. I'm not sure if I'll do the EB or WB next year...maybe both if the price is right. Like you I would book a WB to San Juan in a heartbeat.
I think anytime you step foot on a cruise ship you roll the dice with the weather. Rough seas can happen anytime. I've never been sea sick, but I not afraid to pop a few dramamine if the boat stars rocking.
