Transat Holidays introduces Florida from Atlantic Canada

Transat Holidays has added Florida to its destination line-up from Atlantic Canada. The Florida program will include direct flights from Halifax and Moncton between Feb. 1 and May 27, 2007. Departures from Halifax will include a weekly Monday flight to Fort Lauderdale, Sunday to Orlando and twice weekly to St. Petersburg on Thursday and Saturday. The Moncton schedule will feature weekly a Thursday flight to Orlando and St. Petersburg. Flights will operate on Boeing 737 aircraft in conjunction with Canjet Airlines. In addition to air only flights, car rentals with Hertz are also available. A Florida brochure featuring holiday packages and attraction passes will be available soon. Transat Holidays flights to Florida and Florida car rentals are now available for booking. Roundtrip flights are available from $349 p.p. A special introductory offer of $50 p.p. savings on roundtrip travel is available for those booking by Nov. 26.

That's pretty good! It will be nice to get some more direct flights to Orlando around here.

Did you hear if the $349 was including tax and service fees?

I only recieved the info. I posted. I bet taxes would be extra though.

It's kind of tempting. I did a check for our May trip.. $389 return + fees&taxes = $606. Ouch. I do like the timing of the flights. Get into Orlando at 9:30am-ish on a Sunday and leave at 11:00am the next Sunday.

In comparison, Air Canada for the same time through Montreal is $733 with all the fees. Since I'll be using Avion points the prices don't matter.

Go for the reliability of AC, get Aeroplan points but route through Montreal or go Direct with Air Transat.. hmmmm.. decisions decisions!

Depressing to see the "real" price with taxes and fees. Wish they would advertise both prices... you know, 389 airfare, 606 with all taxes and fees.

Last time I flew Transat (2000, YHZ to Tampa/St Petes) they were 3 hours late on the trip down (which meant all the people waiting to return to YHZ were going to leave at least 3 hours late, since they were getting on the same plane we were leaving) and 5 hours late on the return. Apparently that was a regular occurrence on that route. But at least it was a direct flight, which meant that although we had to spend hours hanging around a boring airport, we weren't chewing our fingernails to the elbow wondering if we were going to make a connection.

The flight was also packed with children because there were no business travelers, just vacationers, on it. I can't complain about that because my kid was one of them! But it was noisy... when one baby stopped crying, there was always another one starting up! And two kids I know of (again, can't complain because mine was one of them) threw up on the flight. Never a dull moment when you fly charters.
