Transactions in an excessive pending state, anyone have ideas of why?

In remember in 2021 a lot of stores were only taking cards due to a shortage of coins. I haven't seen it as much lately.

I was at the Dollar Tree store and they had a sign up saying to use a card due to the national coin shortage. That was the first time I have seen or heard about this. o_O I use my card for pretty much everything so it never impacted me.

The store was pretty sparse on items. :scratchin

I saw that a lot a couple of years ago and I haven't noticed it lately maybe it's coming back. I rarely use cash, but a few months ago I sold something for quite a bit of cash so I was using cash for a couple of months without any issues.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was another coin shortage. I went to Kroger today to pick up a few things and saw a lot of empty shelves. Anytime there's a big weekend the stores seem to get cleaned out. I don't recall them having this issue prior to 2021.
There were some issues in the ports of California. I think it was resolved I haven't kept up with it all lately. I do expect future shortages. I've been stocking up for 6 months.

I’m curious why you don’t want to have a balance? You should let the statement post and then pay it off. It shows that you use credit responsibly. It only gets reported to credit agency after statement posts. Always having a zero balance looks like you don’t use credit and it hurts your credit score.
I'm not a credit expert, but I don't think that is how it works. What you charge in a statement period and that you have paid off the balance are what counts, not whether you paid it off on a daily basis or once a month. I only have one credit card and I pay it off, often before the bill posts. My credit score physically could not be any higher so it seems to work.

If the balance never posts to your credit bureau it looks like you don't use credit. So you have an 850 credit score?

Looking at the statement it lists:
Previous balance
Payments
Other Credits (Rewards)
Cash Advances
Purchases, Balance Transfers and other Charges
Fees Charged
Interest Charged
New Balance.

I think this all gets reported to the Credit Bureaus so they see, for example, I charged $3,000, made $4,000 in payments, and paid no interest or Late Fees. Yup, top of the scale. My only other credit account is my auto loan.

My credit score is 842 and have like 30 cards open. I guess both strategies work as long as pay your bills on time and keep utilization low.

As a business owner that processes credit card transactions the pending time is based on when the purchase is batched through the processing company’s system. Ours batches the charges every night and the deposits hit our bank account in 48 hours and I have not noticed a lag in this at all.

Yeah, no lag; I usually get my text from the CC company by the time I reach my car. (I have my CC set to text me for all transactions over a certain amount.)
Did you perhaps mean to say it was being required because of low STAFFING, rather than low stock?

I do the same as the PP, collecting points on 6 cards, but I don't churn, either (churning is defined as constantly opening new accounts and closing old ones to get extra points for making a balance transfer or a new account bonus). I use a debit card for small purchases (except gasoline, because pumps are easy to skim), but I like having my CC purchase protection on anything large or anything where the vendor is a small business that I've never dealt with before.

I have never cared about my credit score, so I have never had a strategy other than to pay my bills on time. I have always gotten the best mortgage and auto loan rates so I never investigated. I only know my credit score now because my bank posts it on my account summary. With the growth in the need for a credit card, I may get a second card so I may use my credit score then. I know these days there is some risk to traveling with just one credit card in case it gets compromised. I can't imagine having 30.

i only use 4 cards-a credit union mc, amazon, amex and costco. i pay in full each month before i ever get a statement. no other form of debt but i'm near 850 so apparantly those cards report my payment history in some manner.

I churn through credit cards to accumulate points and miles to travel for free. It works for me. It's a hobby. I've never had a credit card compromised while traveling, but I have lost one. It's probably safer to have a backup card especially when you are out of the country.

I had attempted fraudulent activity on my card that my bank spotted. Unfortunately, it was 2 days before we were leaving on a vacation. Bank overnighted me a new card.

i can't get into the churning thing. i use my credit union's card as most people would use a debit card-i just don't want to have to keep track of/write down the debits in my check ledger/for tax records when the credit card keeps better track. i do earn points on it and get some discounts but we really only got it when we were going to canada and learned they did foreign transactions/atm withdrawls free of charge :thumbsup2 the other 3 cards? amazon cuz it's basicly giving me 5% off every purchase AND amazon is one of the most common phising purchases fraudsters put on debit/credit cards so if one shows on my other accounts it's an automatic tip-off. costco-cuz...it's costco. amex b/c they will fight tooth and nail for their customers on disputes. i'm still surprised i get rewards on a no fee card from them but i set up my streaming services and other autopays with them so i end up with a bit over the course of each year.

on having a backup credit card while traveling-YES, YES, YES!!! we had a nightmare some years ago that was entirely the fault of disney cruise lines that caused a mess with the sole credit card we had on us. the credit card company tried to facilitate getting it cleared up with disney but apparantly all their charging services are done off board and they have to communicate via email....took weeks to clear up. i will never travel without a backup card again.

One must remember Clark griswold when Ellen lost her card and the bank cancelled his, causing him to have to write a check and steal money from the desk clerk’s register. All of that could have been avoided if they carried another credit card with them. 😂

Does anyone know why Visa and Mastercard issue the same credit card number for the main card holder(s) and authorized users?

American Express issues unique card numbers to all card holders.

I'm not sure what Discover does.

But everyone having the same card number causes the Griswold issue.

My son and I have Mastercards where he is authorized user. His number is different than mine, I believe.

It may depend on the issuing bank? Our REI card is a Capital One MC and DH and I have different numbers. I think when it was through US Bank and a Visa they were the same. Most of my cards are Visas and they have the same number.

I like that Amex has different numbers, except I have to be careful when using their offers, to use the correct card the offer is on. Have made that mistake before.

Our Citi AA cards have the same number.

I've had the most lag when paying my CC bills. The revised balance will show up on my CC faster than the charge will appear on my bank account. You won't even see a "pending".

Other than that, I encounter the typical delayed postings during the weekends and holidays.
