Hello!

Is there any type of free transportation from WD resort to Universal Studios? We are planning staying at a WD resort, spending a few days at WD parks, and a few days at Universal Studios while still staying at the WD resort. Thanks in advance for any ideas or info.

Welcome to the DIS boards!!
No, there isn't any kind of free transportation between WDW and US/IoA. You are going to have to pay for it. You have a few options..
1. rent a car
2. use a cab or car service
3. book a ride with the Mears shuttle

But, they all are going to cost you something. A cab or car service is going to be about $70 r/t but will cover about 4 or 5 people. The Mears shuttle has to be booked the day before and costs about $20 pp r/t...if I remember correctly.

Doesn't the public bus system go there also?

ETA: I went here http://trip1.golynx.com/ and you can take a bus, well three buses and I think its a $2.00 fare each way.

Put in the Ticket and Transportation Center as the origin and Universal Studios as the destination. It is 3 buses but it only looks like less than a hour trip.

It also looks like you can catch the bus from DTD or the TTC, but its going to be easier and better to get to the TTC in the morning since the transportation to there starts earlier.

It would be best to get dropped off at DTD at night since the MK could be closed and you can get a direct bus to your resort.

There are rental car locations on-site, one being in the Dolphin hotel. I was looking into getting a car for a couple of days. You can get a (small) car for about ~$35 (that was with no coupon) per day. I think that would be cheaper than Mears or taxi. Plus, you don't have to pay to park when staying at Disney hotels. From what I understand Disney will also pick you up at your resort (not sure if they'll do that at the Dolphin though) to get your vehicle and drive you back to your resort after rental return.

Disney will not do this but the car rental company may.
