Hello There,

Just wondering if you have seen Trans-Siberian Orchestra what your experience was? DH every year mentions he wants to see them. I'm thinking of surprising him with tickets. Was wondering if this is a show that you would take your children too as well? My dd's are 10 and 11. The 11 year ago is finally able to play band in school and is just starting out on the flute. I think they would enjoy it but wanted to see if it appropiate for their ages? Before I shell out close to $500 bucks the bargin hunter in me has to make sure it is a purchase worth making..;)

Thank you for any tips or suggestions!!
Barbara

Love it! It's completely appropriate. First half is typically Christmas music then an intermission followed by rock music. Very loud and tons of lights! My kids LOVE it

It's been many years since we have gone, but I keep wanting to go back. It is great!!!!!

We went for the Christmas show a couple of years ago -- absolutely amazing. My kids (then 16 and 9) loved it. Very entertaining -- laser lights, video, real music. Great. Would definitely go again.

We see them every year they are great, beyond great. They always tell a Christmas store then play some rock music and you will love it. This is the last year for this story and next year it will be differnt.

my kids have gone for the last 6 years. The 1st year the youngest was scared of the pyro but he loves it now. They do pre show rehearsals locally they are a very friendly group :)

I have seen TSO 16 times. It had become a tradition for the Holiday season. Last year they had a new show. The story was very dark and most of the great Christmas music that we loved was gone. They are doing a farewell tour of that same show this year. I say that they should have shelved it after last year. I will not go to see it because it certainly didn't start our Holiday season they way it used to. The performers are still very talented. Just not a good Christmas story.

Fantastic Music. Would love to see them live also. Every year on Xmas Eve,
I listen to an American Christmas. :)

Another vote for: GO!!

We went a few years ago - 6 maybe? DS was 10 or 11 but was NOT into music at that time. He did really like the laser and pyrotechnics of it and I just LOVED hearing them live!

I bought my DD tickets to TSO's "Beethoven's Last Night" tour for her college graduation present (she is a Music Major). She LOVED it. Said it was the most amazing experience of her life.

My son loves TSO and we go to the Christmas show every year. Now that he plays the violin, he loves it even more and says he wants to grow up to play like them.

I'm one of the very few people who didn't really care for their show too much. I really love a couple of their songs, but seeing them live just wasn't for me. I guess they just reminded me too much of an 80's hair band, so I got irritated with everyone on stage flipping their long hair out of their eyes :rotfl: (and I am a child of the 80's, so I used to enjoy 80's hair bands). In fact whenever my friend and I mention TSO, we flip our heads from side to side like we are flipping our hair back and forth because I think that may be the only choreography in the show. I really did like all the lighting effects they had and they do have some really good songs, but I just didn't enjoy the show as much as I thought I would. I can see how other people would really like the show, but it just wasn't for me. Maybe I was just expecting too much because I had always heard such rave reviews and everyone kept telling me how much I was going to love it. I'm not saying you shouldn't go, because I am one of the few people I know of who doesn't care for them. Maybe you should just watch a couple youtube videos of bits of their concerts to see if it is something you think you will like.

We loved the show, talented souls with a cool way to do the Christmas songs, etc. Our son, 10, loved it. I am with Shagley though.....I could not stand to watch the girls flip their hair back and forth one more time so we have not been back since.

Go and make it a start to Christmas celebrating event........

My family goes every year as part of a Christmas tradition and we love it! I would highly encourage you to give it a shot!

We absolutely love TSO, but will only go if they are in my town prior to Christmas. We try to go every year, but the one time we went a few days after the big day, it was sort of anti-climatic.

What we've found, is it's better to get orchestra seats. There's not really much reason to pay the big bucks for tickets, because the show can be appreciated from far off.

Go. You will not regret it.

I'm with Shagley. It's not my taste in music, but they are very popular.

Be aware that there is not just one TSO. As with the Radio City Rockettes, there are several touring companies which stage the same show around the country. YMMV.

You are not alone, my DS,DDIL, DGD went and were unimpressed also and they are also children of the '80! Yeah I think people rave about it because everyone else says good things. It reminds me of Avitar the movie, people raved and we went and I thought it was one of the longest most boring movies I had ever seen. :thumbsup2
