My DW and I are planning the Transatlantic in September. :cool1: We want to be able to stay in touch with our kids. How much is WiFi on the Magic for th entire two weeks? Thanks :)

In 2007 we had a number of packages. I think I had one for 500 minutes for $150? It was great to have the capability to send emails to DH, but be forewarned it was SSSLLLOOOWWWW and would randomly disconnect losing the email I was typing:mad:. I finally figured out it was best to log on and look at my email. Log off and type my email response in word and then log back on and cut and paste into an email and send. DD had planned on doing a bit of internet research for school, but it was way too slow for that to work unfortunately. Of course this meant I had something like 100 minutes left over on the last night so DH and I had a slow email chat on the last night to use up the minutes .

I have been on an 11 night, a 14 night and a 15 night cruise and the packages were the same as normal,

Internet Rates
Internet/Wireless Internet Access on the Disney Magic
  • Pay as you go - $0.75 per minute
  • 100 min for $55 ($0.55/min)
  • 250 min for $100 ($0.40/min)
  • 500 min for $150 ($0.30/min)

Internet/Wireless Internet Access on the Disney Wonder
  • Pay as you go - $0.75 per minute
  • 50 min for $27.50 ($0.55/min)
  • 100 min for $40 ($0.40/min)
  • 250 min for $75 ($0.30/min)
  • Printing $0.25 per page

However on a longer cruise its worth going for the bigger time package.

Just wondering if I used my dongle with 3 network if I could get a signal on the Med cruise?

The unlimited internet packages were discontinued in 2004 before the eastbound Panama Canal crossing. As above, all packages are per minute of use. To save your pennies, download what you need, then sign off. Do your work off line, then log on and send it.

Thanks!! We will do a pkg probably. Anyone know if there is a good AT&T rate pkg for cell phone use we can get on for this trip?

Cellular at sea is $2.99 per minute in addition to any charges from your carrier.

Many of the Caribbean ports have internet cafes where you can get free or low cost internet usage; some also have international cell phone rental. I sent this info to one of the moderators who posted it under the "excursions" sticky. Sorry, don't know anything about the European ports. Ask the CMs. They know ALL the cheapest places!

We found internet from $2 for 15 minutes to $2 for 5 hours on your equipment. Other costs $2 for an hour, $5 for an hour, free, etc. International cell $3 for 30 minutes (sorry, Caribbean).

Don't count on the internet... the internet access on the 2007 transatlantic and med cruises were very spotty at best. it would take up to 5 minutes for a page to load. We kept getting credit for our minutes because it was worthless. It was about 20% better reception on the decks and promenade lounges, but not much better overall.

It wasn't any better on the Med.

Bring international phone cards to use while at port.

I had to make an emergency phone call while at sea (in the middle of the Atlantic!) It cost me $2.95 a minute from T-Mobile. prior to sailing they told me it would be $4.95, but when I got home and looked at the bill, it was $2.95.

Check with AT&T for the rates while in the different ports. While at sea you will be on the Cellular at Sea network and they charge $2.49/minute for all calls - AT&T does not add any additional cost to the minutes.
If you want to make calls from the ports using a phone card it's cheaper to buy phone cards in the port you wish to make the calls. They will be cheaper than any of the US phone cards you buy to use overseas.
