Trampolines

My best friend just nearly lost her homeowners insurance because of their trampoline. The insurance companies here are sending out a "survey". She answered honestly and checked yes under the owning a trampoline part. Next thing she got was a certified letter saying she needed to show video proof of them dismanteling the tramp and removing it from the property. she also needed signed and notarized affies for wherever it was taken to, ie new owner, recycling center etc. She WAS NOT a happy camper.

What a joke insurance companies have entirely to much power now and should be legislated by the government a little better.

I am glad I posted this, because now I am convinced we are not getting one. This is one of the reasons I like the DIS so much, it is one way to stay informed and not just by personal opinions, but with supporting materials. Thanks!

my own .02 cents.....I always wanted a trampoline when I was younger but my parents refused (my father had a friend who broke his neck when he was a teenager on one). A friend of mine had one though, and one day we were both on it. I jumped, and she must have landed and jumped again right before me, because one second the ground was there, and then it wasn't, and I ended up breaking my ankle.

I posted earlier on this thread, My SIL's FIL is a Dr. & always told them never to buy their kids one. WELLLLLL... on Sunday my niece (SIL's DD) was at a friend's house & jumping on their trampoline, she did a forward flip, landed, bounced off & broke her collar bone. She is in a lot of pain right now. I feel so bad for her. She was afraid to tell her mom because she was scared she'd be mad. My SIL was just glad that it was her collar bone & not worse. My vote is NO for trampoline.

A trampoline has always been my dream, but I won't get one for a few reasons. First of all, we don't have room considering that we have a playset in our backyard and the other bit of room is used to my baseball son to practice pitching, etc. Of course safety is a big reason. I do home daycare and have an umbrella policy. When being quoted the rate we had to check of we had a pool or a trampoline. I'd never put those two things into the same catagory, but I guess for reasons of liability the insurance company wants to know if we have one.

Neighbors just got one and they let multiple people jump and let the kids bring hard objects (skateboards) onto the trampoline.

If you get one make sure that you spot the children, even with a net and that you establish rules and make sure the kids abide by them. Also, inspect it regularly and watch for wear and tear. Anything sitting out in the weather like that, especially something that is springy, is going to weather.

When getting my umbrella policy for insurance there were boxes to check for owning a pool or trampoline. I'd hate to have checked the pool box and have to disassemble the pool!

I'm now curious what the insurance company would have done if I had of checked the trampoline box (we don't have one). I assumed that they would have just raised the rates, but maybe not.

My friend wasn't given the option of her rate going up, it was remove the tramp (with proof) or they would drop her completely. She would have liked to have had a few options but they only gave her the one. She was afraid if she kept the tramp and let them drop her she would never find a new insurance carrier to take her. The tramp wasn't worth it :D .

We are sure glad our insurance company didn't do that. We had no problem with them and our broker has even had her grandkids here to play on it.
