Does your homeowner's insurance exclude trampolines? It doesn't say anything in my policy about it, but my insurance agent said if they see one in your yard, they could cancel your policy, ask you to remove it, not pay a claim. I kept asking why it wasn't in the policy specifically but never got a clear answer.

We just got notice from our insurance company that we have 45 days to take down our trampoline. The insurance company reprentative came when we were not home and our house sitter gave them access to our back yard. A few weeks later we got the letter.

Is there any language in your policy regarding trampolines?

Our new insurance company made us take it down and they sent someone out to inspect that is was removed. Our old insurance company covered it but our insurance was double what it is with the new company.

if you don't mind me asking, which insurance company do you have? My brother and SIL want to get one. They have Metlife.

What state(s) are you talking about? My DD and Dson in law live in NJ and practically everyone in their neighborhood has a trampoline :confused3

Karen :)

My dad has had a trampoline since I was small and his insurance has never said a word

LOL...check out this thread I just posted a few days ago...it gets a bit heated! Get ready for the trampoline horror stories on *your* thread!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2329803

I called my ins company (Frontline) and they said if they find out we got a trampoline, it is instant cancellation. No warnings or anything. I would not have called, but we had an issue where our insurance was cancelled due to a child's play house on our property, just a few months after we moved into our new home. They came onto our lot and took pictures of a few rotting boards and cancelled us. It was a huge PITA...we had to scramble to get another insurance co before our mortgage co assigned one to us. If the mortgage co assigns one, it is like triple the price. So, we then had to file a complaint w/the state of FL, and they made our original co reinstate us.

SOOO, I am paranoid as heck, and that is why I called to ask.

I have SO MANY friends who have trampolines and they just don't mention it to insurance. If I had not had my previous issue, I would have done that, too.

Good luck!

OH...I also asked about dogs and horses at the same time...we will be getting both within the next year. They said those are no problem but are NOT included in the policy. If someone gets bit or kicked, we are on our own. I asked why we could not do that with a trampoline, too, but they said no...I think because it is a "structure.""

My insurance company said no trampolines, but an inground swimming pool with no fence would be just fine. :confused3

I am VERY curious as to what carriers AND states you guys are all referring too...
A Policy would have to specifically EXCLUDE it, in that section of the policy to NOT have coverage coverage available. They cannot just say they do not cover it...it is either an exclusion as specified in the policy OR they cannot outright exclude it...that being said, they can try and disclaim coverage but would also have to define how they got to that conclusion, not easy to do without tangible evidence of an exclusion.....:confused3
SO, what carriers in what states are we talking about......

OMG, talk about CRAZY.....Thats actually against the law where I am....violation of ordinances and serious fines.....PLUS those claims are a NIGHTMARE!

I work in insurance. There would have to be an exclusion in the policy to not cover a claim. However, if you did not have one when you bought the insurance and then you get one, they could cancel you for increase in hazard. Most states require a set amount of days notice to cancel, it would not be instant. I would also take a look at the application you signed. If you signed the application saying you did not have one, then it could get sticky if you get one and don't inform your agent.

Thanks for jumping in here....I just was floored that carriers were allegedly canceling...and thought something was up...thats why I am asking what carriers and what states....

They would have to send you a notice of cancellation stating the reason. The number of days notice required depends on the state.

assuming it is not specified in the EXCLUSION section, right?
