Trampolines and Guests

There are tons of families in our neighbourhood (hell, just on our block alone there are several) with trampolines so we never have to buy one as our girls just go on all the neighbours' ones ;-) And yes, they are all friends, we're not sending our kids to random houses lol

But the rules they follow are the rules of the parents of that house. If they let 4 kids jump at one time then that's fine (though I only allow my 5yr old DD who is small for her age and not nearly as athletic as her sister to go on when there are smaller kids on there).

We used to have one. I allowed multiple kids on it. Heck, I was often in it with them. They were allowed to bounce a little, play tag, throw balls around and hang out. If someone wanted to jump, everyone else had to sit down. Nobody tried anything crazier than jumping around. The only person to do crazy tricks was an older gentleman. Our jaws dropped when he did a somersault! The only injuries we had were small bruises and once when a kid landed on his wrist and strained it a little.

Haha...I am JUST JOKING, but when my kids ask why they cannot get one of those $2000 wood play structures in our yard, I tell them that we don't need one because all of their friends have them. Same with pools haha.

But we have paid our dues - we had a pool, play structure and a basketball hoop before we moved, and ALL of the mneighbor kids were in our yard constantly using all of it!

I live on a hill and our yard is slanted plus our homeowner's policy is one that will cancel us if we have a trampoline so no trampoline here. My dd15 was the unlucky guest at dh's coworkers end of summer get together who got injured on a trampoline at 9. Dh's coworker had just installed the trampoline about a week or 2 before as a birthday gift for his 2 year old's birthday. The coworker asked for parental permission before kids were allowed on the trampoline and there were some rules to be followed (I don't remember for sure what they were but I think only 1 jumper at a time, no flips).

My then dd9 had my permission to use the trampoline and followed the rules of the homeowner. However when she was separating the safety netting to get off the netting managed to hit her arm. The end result was dd9 ended up with two broken bones in her arm and had two surgeries. I had no interest in suing the homeowner's insurance but my health insurance company was hoping to do so. I kept insisting that dd was using the trampoline properly and had my permission to be on it. It took about a year before my health insurance decided it would pay rather than suing.

Now mostly because we don't know anyone that owns a backyard trampoline the kids go to an indoor trampoline place on occasion. I do get nervous but the girls have fun.

We have had a trampoline for years. It started when we moved to our current house years ago, there was a spring trampoline in the yard without a covering over the springs and no net around it. :scared1: My kids loved it so we upgraded to a new one with the mat around the springs and the safety net. It gets a lot of use when the weather is good. I have a girl former gymnast now cheerleader, and a boy gymnast. I don't really worry about them, they know how to flip properly and I supervise them so they don't try anything crazy. My rule is one jumper at a time (the others can sit on the edge) as most injuries occur when more than one kid is jumping at a time. I do get nervous when other kids use it, but I just let the parents know that we have one and ask for permission. If I know them well, I joke for them to please not sue me if their kid breaks their neck. Everyone knows there is a risk with trampoline. I researched them before we bought ours and am okay with the risk, and so is my homeowners insurance ;)
