Tram Question

I think they are called trans....anyway. My family is going to Disney in Dec. There will be 2 ECV's. Are we able to fit both EVC's on one tram? or will we need to seperate them? There will be a total of 6 of us.

We arent sure how the transportation within Disney's property is set up. We are staying in the cabins and will rely on disney's transportation to get around.

You cannot put an ECV on a tram. If you are staying onsite I suggest using the buses which will handle 2 ECVs at a time. If you are driving from offsite and have a handicapped hangtag then park in medical parking. If you don't ask a CM what to do.

We are flying down so we wont have the van. What is the difference between the trams and the buses? We've never been to disney so we dont know. Thanks

Trams are what you would take to get from the parking lot area to the entry area of a park. They are a tight squeeze. Buses are what are used to get from the resorts to the parks. This is the advantage of using the buses at WDW...they pick you up at the bus stop in your resort and take you to the entry area for each park. The buses are equipped to handle wheelchairs, ECVs, that sort of thing...trams are not.

Okay, a tram is an open-sided vehicle with parallel rows of seats (one set behind the next; sometimes two set facing which means some passengers ride backwards) that you board by stepping up from the pavement to each specific row. It's the stepping part, combined with trams having no space for an ECV, that prevents Guests using ECVs from taking the tram. A bus is, well, a bus. There are pictures of the intra-site buses nearer the top of that page, including at least one photo of either a wheelchair lift or a wheelchair ramp.
Option three: The ECV-users ride the ECVs from wherever you park to wherever the tram lets passengers out (usually near the park entrance, except at the TTC if you're going to the Magic Kingdom) while the rest of you take the tram and meet them there.

Cool stuff!!! Thanks for the link...I've actually never checked that one out before. Didn't even know it was there. Great info to have. And thanks for the tram description...evidently my brain just couldn't figure out a way to put it into works like you did..too early I guess. Thanks again!

Do you mean that you are staying in the cabins at Fort Wilderness? FtW is huge & very spread out. Make certain that you request a cabin close to a bus stop. The cabins are in loops & the inside cabins on a loop are very far away from a bus stop. At FtW you will need to take an internal bus to one of the 2 outposts and then transfer to a 2nd bus to the theme parks.(Each theme park has a different bus) The transportation to the Magic Kingdom from FtW is by boat from the marina.

Thank you everyone for your help. We are staying at the Fort wilderness cabins. My sister requested a cabin at the beginning of the loop so its closer to the transportation out of the campgrounds.

The FW bus stops are Settlement(by Pioneer Hall and the Marina) and Outpost(near the check in) Check your guide map when you check in it will let you know which stop for which park. I don't think the boat to MK will accomodate ECVs(check at check in), this is the one case where FW transportation is lacking, you will need to take a bus(purple for the cabins) to Settlement, then transfer to a Wilderness Lodge(this is also FW orange), then transfer at WL to an MK bus. I hope I am wrong and some one can tell you an easier way for the ECVs to get from FW to MK.

Well I called Disney and asked them. They said we can use the buses, monrail, and the ferry boat. The only thing we cant use is the tram. No biggie since we are flying in and taking Magical Express to Disney.

The ferry boat goes from the TTC to MK, the boats that run from the resorts to MK are different any I don't think they can take ECVs. Best to ask someone when you get there the people on the phone don't always know what the different types of transportion are.
