Tram boarding area change

I believe this changed a day or so ago. You now board the park-bound train inside the parking structure. Here's a pic.

What in the world?? That happened in like the last 4 weeks, we were just there. So you come down the escalator or elevator and go where? They must have moved security tents too?

I’m not a fan, that looks like it would be crowded chaos on busy days, and dark. :-( What was wrong with it the way it was? Unless they are going to start bulldozing that lot for a new structure, which I think I read is going in on top of Pinnochio.

Yes, the security check is also in the parking structure. I was here early enough that there wasn't much of a line, so it didn't effect my tram-boarding time much if at all.

I am convinced DL is slowing moving anything that draws large crowds under COVERED areas to prevent a sniper attack like Las Vegas, just like the changes to Dumbo. Not very magical to think about, but understandable.

Hm, that didn’t even occur to me. I guess from that standpoint it makes sense, but I think it’s really because of upcoming construction. Dumbo’s que area has always been a pan, it’s too small and cramped and not long enough and blocks the walkway, so it needed to be done anyways, I think they just took the opportunity to add shade.

This is likely temporary for construction. I saw this mentioned a few days ago, I think on Mice Chat. Hopefully they'll create a more permanent location for security and team loading once the new structure is built. I hope they have plans for improved security areas with the ooening od their new hotel.

This change is as of yesterday morning. It’s due to the construction of the new structure on the old Pinocchio lot. When the new lot is done I believe there will be a much larger tram plaza to accommodate all as the parking entrance is set to expand by 60% through put as well.

The dumbo queue is due to it being right in the sun and not having a place for it spill into when the line becomes longer than 20 minutes. Same for the small world queue move.

You come down the escalator and go to the right and back into the structure where the cross to the walkway to Downtown Disney used to be. As of right now there is no walkway, but Disney is apparently working on making some sort of walkway to Downtown Disney available.

So, BFF is coming down via school bus (choir trip) and last time she did this (2016) they parked in the Pinocchio lot and boarded the trams. Is that lot now closed off and does anyone know where buses park with the new set up?

I'm staying with family and meeting up with her the days she's there. Last time I parked in M&F and we were able to ride the tram back together at the end of the night then she headed for the bus and I headed for my car.

Incidentally, the lanes used are also different. For example, on the way into the park, the tram takes the left lane (it usually takes the right). When leaving, the tram boards pointed towards the lot (as opposed to away from it, as it's always been).

Well, fiddle dee dee! I like parking in M&F since I'm alone for just a brief moment after we part company and I join the crowds on the escalator. It's a shorter walk with more people around and quite brightly lit. Toy Story is just doesn't feel as 'secure', it's bigger and darker and I could be stuck parking in a far corner and walking by myself. Shoot. I guess we'll have to say goodbye on the Esplanade.

Seriously? No.

Where would a sniper set up in order to have a line of sight? There are security cameras ALL over the M&F structure. There are no outside structures that allow a view into the crowds waiting for the trams.

And Dumbo? Again, where would a sniper set up? On top of the castle? There is literally no line of sight into Disneyland that is not controlled by Disneyland.

They want to give people shade in the Dumbo line. That's it. It's not like the cover over the line will be reinforced concrete. It will probably be a tarp.

This particular move with the trams is because there will soon be HEAVY construction right next to where they used to load. It will be loud, there will be flying dust, etc. Putting it under cover gets guests away from all that.

How does this work with the EV chargers being right there? Also, where did they put all of the ADA spaces? They can't put that many on the upper levels without providing more elevators and making sure that those that are disabled have priority over those with strollers.

Why would priority over strollers be necessary? Strollers aren’t safe or allowed on the escalator, and we’re all just trying to get to the same place. Wheelchairs don’t get priority over strollers at the mall or airport or anywhere else I’ve ever noticed. I don’t see why Disneyland would be different.

Actually, strollers are allowed and even encouraged on the escalators if the children are removed and the strollers are folded, just read the signs.

The reason they would need priority there is because ADA requires parking to "be at least as convienent as parking for nondisabled patrons". This would mean that it wouldn' take extra time compared to someone who can walk and use the escalator. The reason they don't get it at the mall, is it is not going to parking when you are going from one level to another.
