Train question

Has anyone ever ridden in a train across country and used the sleeper accomadations?

I know when I was looking thru the message boards under transportation, a few days ago, I saw someone had questions about using a train and a couple of people mentioned going by train and using a sleeper car.
My family and I are going by train to Disney, first timer, this Sunday but the price is extremely high; in my opinion.
I am getting off in Orlando but I know the train stops in Kissimmee, too.
My problem, being a first timer, is how to get from the train to the hotel.
I think if you look back you might find some answers.
When are you leaving?

We are flying to WDW in June for our vacation. But we are thinking about taking the train from Houston to Chicaco in July to visit family.

DW, DS (11mon) and I took the train from Newark, NJ to Kissamee in Novemer. I will never do it again. First of all way too expensive when compared to flying. The room, (i mean closet) was way, way to small. It was'nt clean and the overall car smelled. We were 2 hours late getting into Kissamee and 4 hours late coming home into Newark. Take my advice, save a lot of money and fly. you'll be there in 2 or 3 hours having fun.

It's unfortunate that you had such a bad experience, but plenty of people have taken the train and enjoyed it. It's also important to remember that not everybody lives near a big airport with dozens of low-fare direct flights to Orlando. For a lot of people who live in small towns in middle America, the nearest airport is a long drive away and flights could be very expensive.

Taking Amtrak is not for everybody, but you can't just dismiss it because of one bad experience. If everybody felt that way, nobody would ever fly again. I've had a lot more bad experiences with the airlines than with Amtrak.

I always take Amtrak to WDW (have been for the past 12 years or more). I view my train travel as part of my vacation--not as just a mode of transportation. I travel alone usually and reserve the standard sleeper, which for me is just fine. I sit back, read, relax. I don't have to worry about de-icing or traffic jams.
Yes, a sleeper is usually more expensive than flying, but there are fewer hassles with a train. JMHO

In the past, we have taken our children to WDW in coach. The kids loved it. I think it was a great experience for them.

I don't think train travel is for everyone. If someone is in a hurry to get somewhere, then this probably would not be an option. Also if a person is the type who just can't sit and relax for an extended period (like my DH), then a plane may be better for them. But I prefer to take things easy. No long security lines, no fretting over the weather. I arrive at WDW relaxed and rested--a good way to begin a vacation.
