Train from Phoenix to anywhere?

We (2 adults, 2 kids) are spending 2 weeks in Scottsdale in early July. The kids have never been on a train, so I was thinking that a train ride to Texas or California might be a good idea to break things up.

Does anyone know of a website that I could look at for train deals/ideas?

I would call them to be sure, but I've looked for trains to Phoenix before, and it seems that Tucson is the actual main train station in Arizona.

Unfortunately if you want a train ride, you need to go to Flagstaff (by bus then catch Amtrak). (Or catch a freight train out of Phoenix! LOL!)

I actually saw this on Jeopardy once:

A: Its the largest city in the country not served by Amtrak.

Q: What is Phoenix?
