just found this at Amtrak's website. Hope this doesnt affect too many on the Autotrain.

Amtrak Service South of Washington Disrupted by Freight Derailment

Amtrak service south of Washington, DC has been disrupted by the derailment of a CSX coal train at Quantico, Va. The railroad is shut down at Quantico with all tracks blocked.

All Amtrak trains that were stopped en route are presently located at Amtrak stations located from Washington to Richmond. Announcements are being made to alert passengers of the situation.

A number of Amtrak trains are cancelled. Amtrak is attempting to secure alternate transportation, but it is expected more than 2300 passengers will be affected throughout the evening.

Additional updates will be issued as new information becomes available.

Yeah, my son and his fiance were suppose to be taking the autotrain back from Florida tomorrow, 8/6, but that train is cancelled.

My Sis-in-Law and her crew are suppose to take the autotrain down to Florida the next day, Saturday, 8/7. Hopefully, things will be fixed for them.

We are scheduled for the autotrain on Tuesday-- hoping by then it is all cleared up. I can see a very full train for the next few days to get people south and north.

We had service cancelled due to a tropical storm in 08-- the earliest train out was 5 days later.

Only benefit to the autotrain is that you have ur vehicle with you.
