I think I read somewhere that you can get food to go at Trail's End. And that you're given a container to fill what you want, you pay, and can take it back to your cabin. I love to do take out. I'm not a big restaurant person since our kids are young, it's more relaxing to eat at home. Has anyone done this on the dining plan.
If this is true it will be awesome and I assure you I will be doing take out several nights.

This is ture, you can take out for breakfast & dinner, I enjoy the food very much a great meal.

Yes, we do the take out often! I love sitting at the picnic table at the campsite and enjoying our food. Yum, doing that tomorrow!!

When we went it was the same price as sit-down, but since my DD was going through a "nothin' but chicken nuggets" phase, it was PRICELESS!

Yes it is the same price, but the amount of food you can fit in the containers
can feed two. it is a great deal, you can use your disney dining card there.

The DDE card is not good for takeout at Trails End, but you can definitely feed more than one person on one takeout meal! We do it at least once every trip.

We did this at least twice on our last trip. If I remember correctly you get 3 containers to fill however you like - a styrofoam dinner container, a salad container and a soup container. We easily fed 2 adults and 2 small children with these. For example mac & cheese in the soup container, Fried chicken and nuggets in the salad one and whatever else looked good in the dinner one. It was much nicer to eat at our camper then take 2 tired kids out to eat.

Is the DDE card the same as the dining plan you add to your package. If not can I use a sit down meal option for take out?

We stay at Fort Wilderness Campground from January till March. We make many visits to the Trails End Buffet for dine in and take out. We've always used our DDE card for both. We also use it for take out pizza. We've been doing this for the last 2-3 years. The DDE is not the same as the dining plan,I am not sure if you can use a voucher for take out.

We were not allowed to use the DDE card for take out in July :confused3 . It stated on the info that came with the card (where it listed Trails End as a participating restaurant) that it wasn't good for Trails to Go, but I asked anyway and was not allowed to use it.

Don't forget that a drink is included with the takeout buffet. My friend with me got brave and asked for an additional container for desert  and we were given one for each of the meals purchased.

The DDE card is the disney dining experience (?) discount card that you can purchase if you are a florida resident or an annual passholder. And maybe a dvc member? I'm not sure of the details, but it gives you a nice discount on meals at many places. It is different than the dining plan.

Now to really confuse things - is the dining plan good for trails end take out?? :)

DVC members cannot automatically purchase the DDE card, but DVC members get a great discount on Annual Passes, so many DVC members (us included!) purchase the DDE card after getting their APs.

First of all, I'd like to say that I *love* the Trail's End Buffet. It is really great and inexpensive. You can also get take-out from Whispering Canyon Cafe over at the Wilderness Lodge. We did that once while staying at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge and we couldn't get an AR. One dinner and a side of sticky wings easily fed two adults and we're big eaters.

I do want to make a side comment, though. You may not usually eat out, but I would say that if you want to think about trying it out Disney is the place to do it. Unlike home, there are kids everywhere. Servers are used to kids and if yours acts up a bit, they will not be the only ones. Your kids won't learn how to act in a restaurant unless they are exposed to the expreience.

:cool1: Holy Mackerel!!!

Thanks to the OP! We are going in Dec and will definately be doing this!!

We will do a few sit down restaraunts, but it's nice to have choices!!!
