Trails End - no more hot lunches unless you like soup!

Does anyone know what the new Counter service dining plan scheduled for Jan. 09 is going to cost?

Earl of Sandwich at DTD. mmmmmmm
Me and DH went there for the 1st time last trip- we ended going back before leaving because it was So Good... that'll definitely be a stop on our next trip. :)

We ate there the other day for lunch. I personally liked the new lunch buffet. They had a much better salad bar, deli salads, your choice of rolls or bread for sandwiches which you made yourself. For the sandwiches they held deli style trays out w/ American & swiss cheese and turkey, roast beef and ham. They also had chili, Chicken & rice soup as well as Italian wedding soup. For dessert was soft serve and a sundae bar to make your own sundaes and cookies (the usual choc. chip & sugar cookies) I do not remember the price but I did enjoy it as I never liked the old lunch buffet. We checked it out a few times while we have been here but never ate there until they changed it to the new menu. As far as the change of the menu, everyone will make their own decision on it but for us it worked out much better. The kids could make what they wanted sandwich wise and I didn't leave there feeling over stuffed like I do at breakfast & dinner. Plus it beats the usual pizza or pretzel at Meadows Pool.
Oooo, that does sound good. I really didn't love the other food, and I like sandwiches so I'm excited to check it out on our upcoming trip.
HAVE FUN! :yay:

I seen something on the budget board a few days ago, I can't find it tho. That board moves fast.

I have heard people speculating $20-25 for adults and $10-15 for kids, but who knows for sure. I assume the price will be released around the time that the room rates for 09 get released for package purposes. We are going to go in March and I was going to buy everything seperate with AAA discount on site (oooh, need to make that ressie today) and military discount on tix. But, with this new dining option, I may just splurge and get the package. It would sure simplify things, but only add a little more to the cost of doing it all seperate.

And, since we will be staying longer than normal this trip, meaning more time at FW, we will be able to try the new lunch there and not have to go elsewhere.

Hmmmm..... I can pay 12 bucks for a sandwich and soup at Trail's End OR make my own sandwich and open a can of soup at the Kiwi for a couple bucks. I guess I'm just parsimonious.

I'm with you Frank and Jim

If I wanted a sandwich and soup I would eat in my Camper. We always carry lunch meats cheeses and soups.

What Jim, Frank and Jeff said. We keep that stuff and some Publix rolls and a couple bags of salad and dressing.

"parsimonious", "pilferable".. There you are always using your big fancy words making the rest of us feel unedumacated. ;) :lmao: :teacher:

Yeah, we can make sandwiches in our camper too. Now, if they made them FOR me, I would be more inclined. When I am on vacation, I want to be lazy. I love the sandwiches at Earl and they are way cheaper and close to shopping. :cutie:

Parsimonious, frugal, thrifty,,,, yeah....it works for me! Of course, I'd rather have hot dogs on the grill smothered in sauteed onions & green peppers & Weber's mustard and a side of Bush's Best Baked Beans with Onions!!!

I know we have a bunch of Publix loyalists here, and for the most part I'm one of them. However, I've recently started buying Winn Dixie's Tavern Ham and Swiss Cheese. Much "thriftier" than Boar's Head or Publix's brand & mighty tasty, too!

Try the Publix sweet ham when it's on sale. mmmmmmm.

Here's a idea how about some body start renting a campsite and selling good food at reasonable prices. I still want a good burger at FW and I don't want to have to make it my self. Are they nuts $12 for a sandwich that will probably taste like it came from a gas station. I guess breakfast at TE and lunch :confused3 who knows where. But I will try it once maybe I will like. I will try to keep a opened mind:)

DIdn't they just change to a manager of the Trailside to a fresh out of college person. Guess they figure this new person is going to bring fresh ideas to the facility. Well it is making us think more about loading up the fridge and make our own sandwiches, and have our own breakfast. If the dinner takeouts are changing we will bypass that also. Previous visit last year we ate many breakfast and some dinners there,,, but no more.

Jim

Yeah, Jim. T.E. does have a new manager fresh outta school! I still maintain that NO ONE should go directly into a managerial job without working thru the ranks a little. I don't care what level of degree they have... without "real life" experience, a degree has no meaning IMHO. Text books & lectures pale by comparison to experience.

Alright, time for a little disney management 101 lesson.

Disney will let ANYONE be a manager. First you take a couple classes disney offers. Then you become a manager intern for a 9 month or so period. Its pretty basic being a manager. For example, we'll use trails end. An intern manager has to learn where things are, such as the boat docks, where to rent a gold cart, etc. Problem wise, they have to learn who to deal with complaints of, "Why is the wait so long?" "This food is nasty!" "We're not getting good service!" and a couple others. Pretty basic so far. After your internship, they have the choice of offering you a manager roll. If you accept, you're now a disney manager, one of a million! Congrats, you now make 30K for working 60 hour work weeks. Shortly they discover that they really have no power.

Trails End for example, a manager there has NO control over anything! There are 2-4 managers there, 2-4 over at the Hooptie Do Review and outdoor BBQ, and probably 2-3 over at the gift shop/store. All those managers are over seen by an area manager. All the area managers are over seen by the next level of management, who is then seen over by the Fort manager(or whatever they call the title)

Disney has teams of people just sitting in offices, looking over numbers, attempting to cut costs, and increase profits. Somehow they decided this change for lunch at Trails End would be a good idea. They probably ran the idea by whoever is in charge of all Food and Beverage for the Fort. If the numbers said it would save money, or increase profits, then it would look good for this person's reputation, so they said OK! That person may have asked input from the area manager over Trails End as well as the head Chef. Input, just that.

As you can see, level entry managers, such as the one you see walking around Trails End has no decision making powers. They simply roll with the punches as orders come down the chain of command. A T.E. manager simply handles complaints, babysits the servers, and then organizes some paperwork at closing time. Managers get transfered ever 1-4 years typically. If you do good at a tables service place like T.E, they may bump you up to a higher volume restaurant like Ohanas. Then if you're good there, they may transfer you to a busy counter service place. If you do good there, they may transfer you to an area manager at a very slow area, like Trails End. And so on, and so on. Thats how to climb the corporate ladder at Disney.

My thoughts also and what I prepare back at the trailer is probably healthier and better than TE. Also, I can then splurge when back in the parks in the evening or the next sit down meal and not worry.

The example you sited is probably right on the money!

I know many people working for disney. Some managers, some hourly, and some servers. So while its true I don't have first hand experience, I do hear my friends complaining about this and that all the time. :)

Guess if I want soup and salad for lunch, I'll eat at camper and probably have p'nut butter and Jelly :rotfl: . Not a fan of lunch meat sandwiches...especially cold ones (not toasted). For $12/person? That's over-priced as I see it...how many sandwiches can you eat? Guess TE is just one more thing we will skip on next trip (breakfast is pretty good though)

well i am here and its definitely not the same lunch. i took a picture of the sign and i will post it. they're calling it a leisurely lunch. everyone is complaining about it. i have to get some pics of the actual food though. i don't care what they serve, i'm SO glad to be here! got an awesome site at 307, close to dog park, which needs more shade. i saw tiggerinbama's daughter but was too far away to get her attention. does anyone know of any way to make time go slow?

I'll keep an eye out for your pictures....make sure you get some of other stuff too. We all are waiting to see pictures of the new premium sites if any of them are done yet. ;) We could use some more dog park pictures...and anything else you want to share :woohoo:

i do have a few dog park pics but its mostly just my dog and few others she was flirting with, lol. i am trying to soak in every minute of these two weeks, i just want it to go slower than normal time, lol. i will post all fort related pictures, lol. stay tuned.
