Trails End for vegetarians (Chef TJ?)

I'm working on planning a trip with a vegetarian friend, and I'm trying to make sure I have some good dining options picked. I have been to the world a few times, and I generally eat a number of meatless meals during my trip, but I haven't actively sought them out before. anyways, I remember hearing fantastic things about Trails End, especially Chef TJ. is there any way to know in advance whether TJ will be preparing our meal? right now I've booked us for dinner on a Monday in November.

Trail's End is a buffet so I'm not sure anything special will be prepared for a vegetarian. There are probably enough vegetarian options on the buffet that a special meal wouldn't need to be prepared. That's only a guess on my part but seems logical.

If your friend had food allergies, I think the chef would come out and show you the things on the buffet that your friend couldn't eat. Maybe the chef would let your friend know what buffet items are not veg-friendly but I wouldn't count on a specially prepared meal.

Thanks, for posting that! I had no idea that he'd cook special dishes at a buffet. Now here's hoping the OP goes there on a night when Chef TJ is working!

As the blog post states, he typically works Sunday through Thursday (take into account vacation/sick days, though).

You will not leave Trail's End disappointed when Chef TJ cooks for you!! I've been there 4 times since Chef TJ has been there, and I leave so happy (and full!) every time. He is such a great guy.

I believe you will be fine. Someone I know of went to Trail's End on a night that Chef TJ wasn't there. They had Chef Michael cook for them, and they seemed very pleased with their meal that night.

I do not know if there is a way to confirm or call ahead, but the best chance you will get of meeting Chef TJ is to book your ADR for any day Sunday through Thursday.

Chef Sergio at Trails End was great last year. My son has food allergies, and he made a very special dessert plate we were so thankful to have. Tofutti ice cream, if I remember correctly, with gummy bears and a chocolate drizzle.

1) The chef-on-duty can still do veggie.
2) But, the originality/uniqueness may not be up to the standards of TJ.
3) There is no way to find out if TJ is there or not - you show up and hope he is working.
4) Even at the Concierge Desk, we do not know from day-to-day.

thanks Rusty, great to know. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I'm sure we'll get some great food regardless
