Trails End changes?

oh come on- ate there for dinner last week, nothing special. Overpriced steaks.

Can't we get back to talking about Trails End? I wanna be there NOW!!!!!!!

Okay.... you get your wish about T.E.

We've been "regulars" at the Fort since 1974 and have seen many changes to T.E. & Crocketts over the years.

The first big cut came in IIRC...1978, when they quit the live entertainment at C.T. on the weekends. I know, I know....it was just a guy singing with a guitar or a banjo, a stuffed fish, & telling corny jokes... but we liked it a lot.

Then there were the years that T.E. was the buffet (with a build your own burger bar as a part of the buffet, not a separate entity) and C.T. was a full service restaurant with a very extensive menu and great food, pricey, but great!! Then, little by little, the menu shrank, the food wasn't quite so good, but still pricy...and.....

Then.... C.T. became just a place for quick snacks (pizza by the slice, nachos, chicken tenders, great wings), a beer or two, and a place to rest your feet & chat. I truly enjoyed it when C.T. was this way. A great place to just hang around and talk with other guests...trade stories, and make new friends. The "upstairs" was still reserved for the buffet.

Then.... someone got this bright idea to do away with the quick snacks, they REMOVED THE STUFFED BEAR to make room to add one more table, and they made the entire building T.E. buffet, and just left the 6 stools at the bar and called that the tavern.

At this point, I don't know how they are working the tables. I got really ticked when they banished the bear!! I think C.T. may be back to a quick snack and hang around place...maybe someone can enlighten me.

We get to FtW several times a month (mostly day trips because now we live so close). But, we actually camp there alot, too, and have camped all total at least 1 1/2 month's worth each year since '74. We used to go to T.E. a lot, but in the past 3-4 years, the quality of the food has gone down, while the prices continue to climb.

My suggestion would be for FtW to offer a full service restaurant as well as a food court and do away with the buffet. It's a navigational nightmare!!! If they are busy, the line to the food weaves it's way thru the middle of the tables where people are trying to dine. I don't know about you, but I really don't care to have someone's butt in my face while I'm trying to eat.

We basically stay away from T.E. & C.T. now. It's a shame, because those used to be my two favorite places to go in all of WDW.

It's the same food as Golden Corral.

I can't believe they removed the bear! I have pictures of my husband and kids with the bear. That thing was great! Shows you how long it's been since we've been there.

Where's the bear....I want to know ...where is the bear?:confused3

The last few times I have been to Outback (one being last night) we had crappy service. The fillet was good, but bad service.

I don't care how bad the reviews are for T.E., it will always be my faovrite spot because it makes me feel at home :lovestruc

Is this recent? it was just there a couple weeks ago.

I don't know..if I read Deb's post correctly she mentioned something about their removing the bear :confused3

wonder when that happened. i could have sworn i saw him as i was walking out cause i was thinking, i should take a picture for my son cause he works in the Grand Teton National Forest and uses bear spray all the time and i was going to kid around with him that i saw one in disney, lol. i will let you know in two weeks :goodvibes

The bear was gone 4th of July. Maybe he just makes "guest appearances" when he knows T.E. won't be as busy. Ya know.... they have to "squeeze" 2 to 4 more guests in regardless of how long the line is to the actual buffet.

Actually, I'm quite surprised that no one else mentioned minding a stranger's butt in their face while they were trying to eat. (LOL)

Deb...You're gonna have to send "Wyonatta" on a mission to find the bear! :moped: We need proof of this!

We were there in May and the food was awesome. They had a great selection for dd who is allergic to gluten. Dh and the kids say they want to go back next time.

That's not a problem for the disney marks.

We were there in July and it just wasn't as awesome as it has been in the past although overall it was fine. We had a party of six dining and the gratuity was included. Big thing I noticed was the mac and cheese just wasn't up to par. Nice thing was we hit it just at brunch time so enjoyed breakfast leftovers and lunch starters. They did have a build-a-sandwhich type bar but no build-a-burger LOL. Kids were disappointed in that their crayon artwork was no longer displayed on the walls. Oh well. They weren't crowded which was good.

People standing in line with their butts in your face....I have been there on the busiest of nights and never seen a line with folks standing at my table.

If you are seated at the tables nearest the buffet, this will happen! I'm glad it hasn't happened to you. If you go there enough though, it will! Just the law of averages!

Finally....I agree TE is not the greatest food in the world, but it is decent food at a decent price for WDW prices.

As far as resorts go, I have to agree your last statement. The better restaurants at Busch and Sea World are way overpriced, and it's pre-prepared, nuked food. Most of the better restaurants at WDW, and even the food courts, are freshly prepared digs. Although the food prices at WDW are higher than say, a restaurant outside "The World", WDW isn't remotely competing with those places. All in all, the food prices at WDW aren't too out of line. Not like other theme parks that truly stick it to you.

When we go to Cypress Gardens we never eat inside the park. The food is nasty, and the prices are way over the top for the "grub" they serve. And get this... if you're carrying a bottle of water or soda when you enter the park, they won't allow you to take it in with you.

Now that makes sense. I could see that happening. AND NO, I don't want someone's butt in my face either, LOL!

This is the stuff I do not get. I mean, all the money you are spending and they think it's actually going to hurt their profits if you bring in some water. I would rather spend my money somewhere else, thus keeping my money going into their competitor's hands.

My sisiter's family and my family were @T.E. and C.T. in May and we were very disappointed. Between both families we are 10 people with 6 kids. My sister and I went up to the hostesses and asked to sit in the bar and we went right in with our huge crowd. They didn't stop us but when we tried to sit at a table by the bar all hell broke lose:confused: A waitress came running up to us yelling "you can't sit there", when we asked why she was really rude and said the tables were for the buffet only????? Now why didn't the hostess say that when when all went in???? :confused3 Did she think we were all going to belly up to the bar with the kids:rotfl: ?? So anyway we all go back out and ask to be seated, and when they called us back in they sat us at the SAME table we were just at?!?!?

We order our food(nobody wanted buffet) pizza, nachos, wings, adult drinks so on, food arrives and the only good part (besides the adult drinks of course) were the nachos(which were awsome). The rest of the food was awful, even the pizza:confused3 The kids wouldn't even eat it:scared1: This was our first experience there and I don't think will will eat there again?

Let me just say we love the Fort and go many times a year we just never ate the before becuase we ALWAYS cook @ the campsite! Oh well live and learn.

My son encountered this problem a while back when going to a local Six Flags for a school trip. We sent him with $40 because we knew what was going to happen, none of his friends had enough money and there are absolutely NO drinking water fountains in the park. Six Flags had no problem charging them around $3.50 for a bottle of water though. My son said they ended up skipping lunch because they needed the money for water.

That's a nice thing about the Disney parks -- every restaurant and snack location will give you a cup of water if you ask for it. It's a policy they have, and we've never been turned down!

sixAMmom: I completely agree with you on the pizza! It's horrible! :(
