Trails End Buffett

the food is great at Trails"s End hands down.

Correction: the food at Trail's End used to be great. Take it from me - when Granny was whipping up the victuals years ago, you had more choices, and better quality. Granny has long since retired, and now they serve pre-cooked, warmed over crap. With the exception of the pizza (because you see them pull that out of the oven) I think food that is left over from the HDDR one night, is served on the buffet the next.

You have to trust me on this one, as I've been a somewhat regular Trail's End diner since the 70's. It's nowhere near as good as it used to be. It's nowhere near worth the $23/adult price they are charging.

Now, the Lone Rider or the Giddyup and Go chicken dinner - that's Good Eats, and not too far over the top as far as price is concerned.

Now that we've beaten this issue to a pulp - an off property place that you might want to visit is Texas de Brazil. Yes, it's pricey ($45/per adult), but not only is it delicious, it's an experience all in itself! 5259 International Drive Orlando, FL 32819-9476 (407) 355-0355

Don't know if you're kidding, was there a real Granny?

I've read about the Giddyup & Go chicken, never had it, but what is the Lone Rider?

Well, I never saw a "Granny", but that's how they used to advertise Trail's End. You know how Disney likes to spin a tale.

The Lone Rider is a two-piece chicken dinner with fries, cole slaw and a biscuit for (IIRC) $8.95. For an extra buck, I ask for two breasts, and it's enough to feed me & the DH. They are generous with the fries & slaw, and the biscuit's as big as your head.

When we first ate at Trails End in the late 90's the wait staff told us that they smoked all the meats and cooked everything fresh on site. Though I haven't eaten there in years or any buffet for that matter cause no one else in the family will eat enough to warrant the cost, it does, in my opinion seem that most quick service and lesser table service restuarants through out WDW have their food cooked in some central institutional kitchen then reheated on site. Probably not, but that's the way it tastes to me.

We had lunch at TE back in December, and I thought the food was great. Not sure if it was worth the price, but since everything at Disney is pricey I get immune to sticker shock after a few days there! The giddyup and go is our standard first night meal. And it's the best bargain out there.

I will say that I agree 100% that the food has gone downhill at WDW overall. We had 2 really good meals this last trip - at Sanaa and at Biergarten (which surprised me, I wasn't expecting much with the food there). The rest of it was average or below average. The atmosphere makes up for some of it, but we eat out less and less every trip we take.

Hi

Is it over priced.of course. But we always eat there at least once a trip. The Fried Chicken is dynamite and I love the ribs. Everything else I think is fine. The deserts are usually excellent although I'm not fond of the brownies now. We even enjoy the pizza.

Other favorites we love on property:
Pucks Express at the Village we loooooove that place
Earl of Sandwich great and inexpensive
The Chinese Restaurant in Epcot
Riverside Resort Food Court, we love the pasta

We try very hard not to leave the property and we've never really had a horrible meal.

I also miss the bbq chicken handwiches

Just our opinion

One thing I will give Trails End is they still had a good salad bar last time we went in for dinner. Not sure if anyone likes just the salad bar only but you can get that by itself and at dinner the boiled shrimp is included in that.

I still like the Geddy Yap sp? as it's good food and value.

Good to know! I can definitely make a meal out of a salad bar, especially w/shrimp.

We ordered the pizza just a few weeks ago.

When DH asked for x-tra cheese, the lady told him.."Honey, it's FROZEN, the way it comes is the way you get it."

The pizza isn't fresh or even leftover.....

it's something less than Dijorno.

Never again.

I had breakfast there this weekend and also had dinner there last night. Since I didn't feel like driving out it was ok for me. The salad was really good as was the chicken and roast beef. I agree that Ohana and Boma are similar priced and better. It was about $25 for dinner and $17.99 for breakfast. If I was on the dining plan I might consider it but if you want better go to Boma.

We do the dinner buffet & the food is pretty good. It's homestyle type of food. Nothing to rave about but not bad either.

Personaly I think the Breakfast Buffet is one of the best values for the food on Property.. in my oppinion. Good food, and not packed in at all. You don't always want a char. meal, and this fits the bill every time for me, have never had a bad meal here yet.

I am usually a big fan of Trails end, but we went for dinner there last night and I have to say, I was not impressed. My 4yo loves grapes and I know that will always make her happy when we go there. Low and behold, they have replaced them with cherry tomatoes on the salad bar. But they were available for a seperate price at the register in a nice plastic mickey bag....ugh:confused3 I asked why they did this and they said they like to switch things from time to time. The food was fair at best and agree if you don't mind the ride head to kona. We went there Monday night and enjoyed it. Breakfast at 1900 Park fare was excellent also, our first time there.

Chicken, ribs, roast beef, chili and good salad bar are good. We always eat there the night we first arrive at the Fort and we celebrate with a martini while rocking in the chairs on the porch. We love people watching and it gets us relaxed and in the Disney spirit for the week ahead. TIW card helps with the cost. Yes, it has gotten too expensive, but no more than any other Disney food. And, you are getting the same food that they are serving in the Hoop Dee Doo Review for much less money. They are right next door and I believe all the food is from the same kitchen for both.

Based on all the good reviews I had read about the Giddy Up and Go meal, we ordered it when we were there last December. I thought it was pretty terrible, and we ended up throwing most of the food away. I don't think we'd be willing to spend our money trying it again. We're not big KFC fans but do get it once a year or so. I thought the Giddy Up and Go food was quite a bit worse than KFC.

Wow! I am sorry to hear that. The Giddy Up and Go and the Lone Rider are about the only two things we do get from Trails End. Always fresh and delish. Just out of curiosity, was it late in the evening when you got it? I'm thinking you got chicken and fries that were in the warming tray just a little too long. :confused3

Dave uses the Giddy Up and Go chicken (w/hot sauce) for fishing bait. :thumbsup2
And not just any hot sauce.....THIS stuff:

Ironic, ain't it?
