There are a lot of questions about how long it takes to get from - to - and I thought having all the info in one place would be handy...

As you can see I need locals help to fill in the times, but I will update this post as people reply :-)

Rush hours are approx. between 630am-9 and 4-7 (later on Fridays)

Non rush hours are pretty much everything else, although Sunday nights can be busy with people returning from weekend trips.

I may add weekend slots also, but I think I will add blurbs about that under non rush hours. Also some freeways are bad pretty much all the time, but I will let the locals mention those too :-)

I was born and lived in SoCal for many years, and return there once or twice a year. I am not an expert, but it seems in recent years that we have managed to get stuck in traffic at all times of the day on all days of the week. 11PM at night? Yep, stop and go traffic. Saturday afternoon? Stop and go traffic. A couple summers ago I remember getting stuck in stop and go every time we ventured onto a freeway from Riverside to San Diego to LA to Ventura to Pasadena to Anaheim at all times of the day on all freeways.

What I am saying is that it is hard for me to have much faith in drive time estimates in SoCal. Yes, one can generalize. But if you really, really want to be somewhere, travel the previous evening. Early mornings at 5AM seem to be the next most reliable time to travel. Otherwise, the traffic gods may throw a major wrench in your plans.

My recommendation is to use estimates people provide here with hope :) , but be prepared for it to be worse :scared: .

Great idea. I have to agree with Trey though.

Just a week or so ago we drove from So OC to Hollywood.
Picked a weekday and left early enough to avoid rush hour.
Distance was about 60 miles
Mapquest estimate was 1 hour 10 minutes
Our drive time was almost 3 hours
:scared1:

Didn't see a single accident or stalled vehicle and no mention of anything other than normal delays on any of the freeways we traveled on any traffic report that we heard.
:confused3

So Cal traffic Gods are a moody bunch!

Beleive me when I say I understand the whole concept of California Traffic, as I too used to live there.

There is nothing like 10 lanes of traffic at a stand still. When I describe LA traffic to folks here in Chicago, I say here the traffic slows to 20 mph, while there is stops and you can read a few pages of a book before starting again.... :lmao: (they really need a starbucks on the side of some HWY's there for road side service lol)

But I see traffic questions asked ALL The time here and thought if we can get the basic's all on in place, that would help people with their planning.

HydroGuy that is very true about SoCal. I log on to sigalert.com to see where the hold ups are on the freeway whenever we hit the road.

It was not my intent to disagree with your OP. Sorry if it came across that way. As you know it is very hard to tell someone how long it will take to get somewhere in SoCal. Your estimates are good guidelines and it is valuable for people to know what the estimates are. So thanks for putting that together.

One of the jokes in our family was with my wife's grandmother who lived for 50+ years in Sherman Oaks and died a couple years ago. She lived there before there were freeways. When she was older and still driving, she never took the freeways anywhere. She in fact pretended that there were no freeways and the traffic patterns in LA were the same as 50 years before. When we went to visit her we inevitably would get stuck in traffic and arrive later than expected. And she would invariably take the tacit position that there were no freeways around her house on which to get stuck in traffic and that we should have just come on Ventura Blvd. :lmao:

In any case, sorry if I threw cold water on your thread. Hopefully your OP and the various responses will give people an idea of what to expect on good days and bad. :)

So, what is the "average" time from LAX to Disneyland Resort Hotel? I'm traveling there this week for business and plan on taking a taxi or shuttle service. Just wondering how much time to give myself, especially on the return trip to the airport...

The Mapquest Directions (link below) show this as a 35 minute trip. I would plan for double that. But, keep in mind that I do not have a lot of experience taking the 105 or the 91 freeways. Anytime I am unsure, I will plan for double the Mapquest travel time, especially during the weekday.

A good trip would be less than an hour, a slow one could be two. 35 mins would be very very quick IMO

35 min is very quick....

On a good day we are 32 miles away and can get there in 36 minutes.... Usually a Sunday morning about 9am...

Then I do go the speed limit.. averaging 70-80 mph... I am keeping up with
the flow of traffic....

So LAX and the 105/91.. You could try it, but on an fternnon during traffic that smae dreive could be 1.5 hrs... Usually if we can get out of our house by 3pm. we hit the 405 and 91 about 3:15 we can get there by 4pm. But you never can tell what would happen.

Also beware of lookie loos and we call them. An accident on the opposite side of the freeway and everyone has to look and not drive.. That is what causes most of the traffic...
