I've heard many different stories about what "Traditions" was like. I'm sure most of us newbies on here are curious about it. What's it like?

8 hours long......:surfweb:

thats all i remember. :rotfl:

Actually, CP Traditions is now a half-day four hour long session.

drich203Traditions is the first-day orientation required for all new cast members and employees to The Walt Disney Company. For CPs, this usually takes place on day three or four of the arrival process.

The course itself covers the basic history of the company, the company's standards and behavioral competencies, workplace harassment, guest service standards and techniques, and other information that new hires find useful. In essence, it's a primer to working at The Walt Disney Company (and more specifically Disney Parks and Resorts).

This is also the day you will collect your Walt Disney World Co. ID, which allows you complimentary admission into the Disney parks and provides numerous discounts.

Exactly as stated above.

I heard so much about traditions before I got here that I thought it was some kind of big deal.

Traditions is nothing more than 4 hours of explaining company rules and standards. They show a brief history of Walt Disney, then show a video about Disney, go over company rules and policys about sexual harrasment, equal opportunity...blah blah blah...pick up your ID card...

Then off for the day.

4 hours of orientation, nothing more, nothing less.

I would describe Traditions as a bit more exciting than how CrimsonTide put it. I really enjoyed it. I think Disney did a great job of making their orientation really interesting because it's not the easiest making orientation information engaging. But they do really well, you learn a lot of useful information, meet new people, and it answers a lot of questions that one may have about working for the company. Plus, I think when it's your first time especially, it's really exciting because... well, it's your first real insider thing about the company. :)

I'm certainly interested to see it, if nothing else than I've never heard of a company giving their orientation a name. Plus 'Traditions' is so......majestic sounding. Can't deny I'm intrigued, even if it is just orientation.

I hope that already being a DLR Cast Member I will not have to endure the traditions at WDW.

As long as you have Traditions recorded in SAP and have been an active cast member within the last year or two, you probably won't have to take the class again.

Kristin- yep, they still do trivia and give out small prizes!

The first half was interesting, but after that we got into these ridiculous videos and it was all down hill from there.

I enjoyed Traditions! I got a little Donald figurine for answering a question. That was really cool because he was the first character to be my friend - in my first day out in the park (in training) and on my first day out of training. :)

Even though Traditions was long, I enjoyed it because I love learning about the Disney company itself. Some of the videos almost made me cry - good tears, of course!

Before you walk into the room to find a seat, they will examine you and make sure you are in the Disney Look - from head to toe. Then....they give you your cast member ID!!! :cool1:

I know how you feel about learning about the Disney company. I have done so many speeches and research papers about it, and I love learning more and more every day! It's so interesting.:yay:

I won't have to take it again. I haven't done Traditions since 2005.

I absolutely loved Traditions. I loved watching the history video, even though I knew most of it, loved the little games, etc. The orientation part was not that bad either.

Traditions is where you get your company ID, or as I like to call it, the Now You Can Stop By Magic Kingdom For A Barbecue Sandwich Card.

That's really all you need to know.
